If he wants to stay then he has earned a contract extension and has earned some grace from the fan base (myself included).

It could mean that it hasn?t been presented this week or recently. He also said a few days ago he didn?t want to have these contract discussions during the season. Who knows.

At this point, I am just sick of all the drama. I love it here, I hate it here, who knows? Let's just go win Saturday and then let the chips fall where they may. What I do know from all the posts and talk is that we have a passionate fan base that wants nothing more than the very best for their beloved Herd.

Thinking about that he didn't say they were not in agreement or at a crossroads in negotiations. He said it never presented itself.

I take it as a signal to the Admin that he wants to stay. He may or may not have been offered before and not taken it. But that's beside the point he is saying Today he wants to continue being the coach of MU.  Ball in Admin court.

If this is correct, and I think that is a big If, that would have to mean that something outside of recruiting, tranining, and performance ON THE field are in play.  This report doesn't jive with others I've seen from some places I trust today that says it's not about money for coaches, its about potential money for players. This would mean, and justifiably so IMHO, that Huff sees the real chance at being a winner lying directly at the feet of how much NIL money a unversity has to hire its next set of players.  Sad, but i truly believe this is what is at play.

From what I'm hearing today, in order for this to happen, the Admin would have to be turned down from an outstanding current offer, or pull the offer and give one to Huff. I don't think this is going to happen, sadly for me (and many others, I believe), a really good man is heading out of Huntington soon.

It could also mean Huff over estimated his attraction to other programs.  Ending up with no extension from Marshall and only an offer from SoMiss he is faced with beggng for handouts from the hand he bit.

The Huff slander needs to stop, it's low. He's been a good coach for Marshall, and all fans ever do is complain about either how he doesn't want to be here, his wife or not winning a championship every single season.

We're about to find out just how good we had it.

You can't blame him for waiting to see if a P5 offer comes up. Anyone would. At this point, it's here or there. He wants to stay. It's all in the Administration court now.
As Riley says, we could do a lot worse. Especially, if we have to start over. He may be bucking for more $$ from another interested school, by saying this. Who knows, but
he clearly states he would like to stay.

Now we all know from prior actions COTY is a death kneel to his job.

Huff is going to have multiple suitors especially if they win the SBC Champ. I wouldn't bet on Southern Miss either unless they lose and he does not get other options but don't be shocked to see him at a P4 next year.

Tony Gibson - 15 years ago / he couldn?t stop Cam Fancher and Trickett / very outdated hire

These people calling the shots do not know how to do this right

Charles Huff
Or
Eddie George

Absolute garbage! Huff has made a bad statement here and there. But for the most part, he has represented this university with class. I remember the Ohio State game that the Fox Pre-Game announcers said nothing but good things about Huff including Urban Meyer.

9-3. Players play hard. Players don't quit. We landed some talent in the portal. Best OC hired in a long, long time.

You guys in admin need to quit spending time on this board and look at how you botched the men's basketball program the past three years.

Maybe he should have appreciated the job he had instead of trying to leave every chance he could.  He was offered twice between ND and the end of last season.  He refused both.  Once the season collapsed he was told win it all or move on.

We'll see what happens on Saturday.

Reading Southern Miss forums they are convinced that he's they're next HC and are mad that their admin is allowing him another week when someone needs to be working the portal.

Whatever.  He is an employee here.  He will be an employee somewhere else in the future.  Coach's are loyal to their players not schools.

Huff will have some fond memories and some disgruntled memories just like we all do about prior employers.

If he comes back, I'm OK with that.  If he leaves, I'll be OK with that too.

Marshall is in my blood, I'll be here no matter what.

If he doesn't leave, I think it shows his market value after last year isn't very high.

If Huff truly wants to stay for a price we can afford, and our administration chooses to go with Gibson or *shudder* Clark because they're WV guys and/or we're too butthurt to bury the hatchet with Huff, that would be inexcusable.

It would be time to start calling for Spears' head and to seriously question if Smith should have any involvement at all with athletics.

Maybe it was when her husband said to be at Marshall means you really like being at Marshall because living in Huntington isn't easy.  Paraphrasing, but it was to that affect.

Then there's interviewing for multiple jobs beginning with Duke not even 4 games into your tenure.  Maybe the Huff's like it here, but his agent wants more and he's the one constantly putting Huff's name in every opening.

Huff has always wanted to leave.  According to Southern Miss fans he is their next HC.  Maybe turning down two extension offers in previous seasons and getting involved with a long time conference rivals on the eve of the biggest game to date of your career wasn't smart IF you really wanted to stay.

Also how many coaches over the many years of college football have told everyone they were staying or wanted to stay only to be in negotiations to leave and within days are being introduced at their new job calling that one their dream job or an opportunity to coach such a program as____________is one you can?t pass up.

I have no knowledge of this but it's starting to feel like Huff was using Southern Miss to leverage a better deal out of us and we told him go ahead then.

I worked on a negotiations team over the course of years. Negotiations aren't easy. Two sides are always trying to do what is in their best interest. Negotiations are also not done overnight. Contracts that I have worked with had contracts voted against one or two times before they were ratified. Articles in the contract were rejected.

Just because you say "well we offered him two extensions" doesn't mean jack squat. We don't know the entire stipulations. Buyouts, in this case, are a HUGE matter and aren't done in a week. Right now, Huff has the ball rolling at Marshall. It has been a decade since I had this much excitement. He brought me thrills with some of the notable wins. Marshall needs to be big picture right now and quite frankly, Smith isn't.

And quit bringing the guy's wife into this. I don't even understand that angle. She is the wife of the coach....the mother of his children. Give it a rest. That alone is a bad look on the fanbase.

People are gonna believe what they want to believe, regardless of what the Huffs or Marshall says. They can tell you everything is great but we don't know if it's true or they are just covering.
Actions speak louder than words.

In all likelihood both parties have some blame in this debacle. Marshall never seems to handle these matters well.

But that's beside the point he is saying Today he wants to continue being the coach of MU.  Ball in Admin court.

I think the problem is that the ball is NOT in Admin's court - they've already handed it off with the next guy just waiting a few more days to run with it.
