  • I came to post the same thing. It was awesome seeing Henderson Center and IAF on 60 minutes. Hamrick did a good job. Pretty good exposure for our University.

  • I think we know now why yiu never hear anything about injuries. Hamrick said he told kids to not tell anyone. Not even family.

Hearing his statement on this certainly was enlightening.  I have a little better understanding of the reasons behind being so tight lipped as far as injuries.

Yep. Sounds like hamrick runs a tight ship and expects to keep it clean. Very good interview.

  • He sounds pretty paranoid and out of touch here if he thinks legal sports gambling is going to make it more likely for a player to get corrupted.

For what I assume has been decades now, you can bet football parlay cards that include the Herd in just about every bar in Huntington. The types of people who are gonna try to talk athletes into point shaving aren't gonna be the types who make their bets in the light of day where they can easily be tracked.

  • Hamrick is about the most naive person in history. Billions upon billions were spent on sports betting every year before it was legal.

  • I kinda got the sense that Hamrick was able to get his point across how wanted it but the interview seemed quite edited to me. Meaning I don’t think they were airing Hamricks full quote/interview.
I don’t think in a bad way but I can see where some on here will make a stink about what was said.

I had a different take away from his comments.  I HERD him saying that while gambling has been there before legalization, there are now more people gambling than before so there is more incentive to get to the kids.

Personally, I like the training that they are doing with the student athletes.  I also like the keeping of injury information close to the vest.  I recognize many on here do not like that, but I think it makes sense.  I also like it because it is the player's personal information about his physical condition.

  • If you could take the players right to privacy regarding medical issues out of the equation (and you can't) and take out the desire to for gamesmanship with opponents out of the equation (not sure that benefits as much as some think) sharing injury information with the public is the best way to handle it from a gambling perspective.  Having information that others don't is the only advantage for a gambler.  If everyone has it, no one has an advantage.

Oh yeah, I don't have any problem with the training and think that's a good idea. I also think keeping injuries quiet is the smart thing to do for reasons that have nothing to do with gambling. Why give your opponents any info you don't have to give them? I do think we're pretty close to the NCAA forcing NFL-style injury reports, but until then, there's no good reason to release that info.

But I just don't think legalized gambling is at all an issue here. There might be more people betting, but there were already quite a lot of people betting. I still bet with offshore accounts that are really easy to use because the Mardi Gras app is garbage. The types of people just getting into betting only because it's technically legal now aren't the ones who are gonna fix games.

  • The only reason injury reports are released is for gambling.  Common knowledge in the NFL.  Big money has already ruined sports, this just takes it down a notch.

  • Gochneaur, not being a smart aleck, but if you don't think that sports betting has been ramped up then you are naïve.  The internet and legalization has made it more acceptable that betting with a bookie or one your friends with cards.

That's sort of my point. Those who care about it being "acceptable" are just gonna do it for fun and not suddenly start getting involved in point shaving scandals.

  • Ethics is a virtue that is very often ignored by many in today's society. There will be players, fans, etc. that will be "caught up" in this point shaving, etc. in the coming months and years....."FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL"......
