  • The 2019 schedule could not be set up better for us.  We play 3 of the top five in this and many, if not most all, other lists of the top contenders for the Access Bowl.  Beat Ohio, Cincy and Boise then hope they win their conferences and we win ours.  Couldn't be much of an argument against us given that scenario.

  • The schedule does set up nicely for us, conference wise as well. Getting La Tech and FIU at home in November is huge. No excuse not to have a very good year.

In my mind these days.. if you don’t beat/schedule a power 5...then you shouldn’t even be considered for inclusion

    I don't know about "shouldn't" but I have a good idea about "won't."

Hypothetical here. The G5 access slot is supposed to go to the best G5 conference champion. Say the season actually follows suit to some predictions, and we have the best of the MAC, AAC, and MWC on our schedule. Also say, we go undefeated against that slate. What argument could you possibly make against us not being the best G5 team? The fact that we didn’t play Vanderbilt ?

I agree, if you are talking about making the 4 team play-off, but that's a different conversation, one that no G5 team has to worry about anyway.

There is one spot reserved in the NY6 bowl games for a G5 team.  That spot goes to the best G5 conference champion. Our goal every year is to be the best G5 conference champion, so what's the best way to prove that's what you are?  I would say by beating the other G5 conference champions before they make that selection, not by playing Purdue.

Who's better, a G5 champ that goes 10-2 and loses to Ohio State and beats Purdue or a G5 champ that goes undefeated and beat the team that lost to Ohio State and beat Purdue?

So with your logic playing a dismal UNC over G5 conference favorites would look better on our schedule?  To be blunt if you complain about this year's schedule then you're not so smart.  P5 or not this is one area where our fans should be excited.  Those that aren't need to just walk away from the program because nothing will make you happy.

  • Reality is we would likely have to win all 3 games vs G5 contenders to have a shot...and then have OU, UC, and Boise all have good seasons.  But it is right there in front of us.  Last year was a pretty good year but we beat, what, one D1 team that finished with a winning record (FIU)? We have to become dominant at home again and stop wasting opportunities. Since 2014, outside of bowl games, we have been pretty bad in games that really matter in and out of CUSA.
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

Giving "88" credit, he did say "outside of bowl games".

  • If Herd plays each game like they did against South Florida they go undefeated and plays in Access Bowl.  I hope that game was a glimpse of our new normal type game each week.

  • Went to today’s scrimmage. Not that excited. Thought we played sloppy. Maybe the heat. Thomson played better than IG.
Don’t know what to think of this team. We have the tools to be very good, but gonna have to play at a high level every game.

This team could be good or this team could be bad. I think the defense takes a big step back. Losing Bee, Gant, Hancock, Tyler and others will be hard to replace. Offense could be good but will have to improve a lot IMO at QB. I dont see how this team goes undefeated or even just 1-2 losses. But i could be wrong.

Too bad we only play like that once a year in a random bowl game.

  • Our best players are our rb's and ol members.  Road grader offense is the key.  Lose Brady but add Tyler King and Knox together which is a better duo as both can reach 1k in rushing yards.  Then sprinkle in Sheldon Evans and you could have a 2,500 yard rushing attack.  That scores a lot of points.  Defense gets sacks and wins turnover battle, Herd wins with an offensive rushing attack and opportunistic defense.  I think in 1999 our defense created 24 INT over the season.  Not sure we even had 10 picks last year.
