  • G5 power UCF falls to Tulsa and Memphis falls to SMU. Georgia State bulldozed ECU. Oklahoma and Texas go down.  Lots of Top 25 programs taking a loss including Pitt. That team up north winning in overtime against Baylor. The pillow fight against Middle and WKU with the toppers emerging with the W.

Looks like that coveted spot in the access bowl belongs to Cincinnati or BYU.

    Man I’m missing Herd football!

  • Goes to show the importance of the UC game last year and the bowl loss to UCF. IMO larger importance than the Appy state game. Yes appy game was against a “top 25” on cbs but beating a UC and UCF carries far more weight. Can you imagine if MU would have beat UCF in the bowl game... wow

I’d love to see Marshall get the opportunity to play UC, BYU and UCF

I'm tired of us "wishing and hoping" to be like teams that used to wish they were us.

I think just hanging in there and not being completely destroyed would have been an improvement. That just shouldn't happen. Both teams were really good but Marshall was supposedly one of the top teams in C-USA and neither opponent was Alabama.

  • Unless something has changed, BYU is not eligible for the Access Bowl, right?  Has to be a conference champ to be eligible and they are not in a conference.

If they go undefeated I could easily see them taking the G5 spot if no G5 goes undefeated. In a year of so much uncertainty, it wouldn't shock me if this happens despite what the playoff rules say. The committee can easily make the changes based on the current situation.

Nah, there are tens of millions of dollars worth of contracts that won't allow that. BYU would have to take up one of the P5 at-large spots.

We have a longgggg way to go to even think about having a chance. And if we're perfect, we're still gonna need the AAC to beat each other up with Cincy and SMU still undefeated.

The P5’s aren’t gonna let someone in on the party and take a spot and the money that goes with it. They’ll lobby that a BYU gets the spot over a G5. The G5’s don’t have much bargaining power compared to the P5’s. You are correct, a very long way to go before all this plays out.

I agree that they probably won't let them have a spot over a P5, but they legally can't give the G5 slot to them no matter how much they lobby.

Correct.  That is the only reason that the G5 schools voted to give the P5 the power they did.

I disagree with your premise that the G5 gave the P5 the power.  The P5 had the power and they gave the G5 a few crumbs to shut them up and keep them happy.  As things have progressed since that time the P5 has continued to amass and gain power.  If they decide to suddenly change the system because they think it will benefit them, they will do so, and the G5 can whine and gnash their collect teeth all they want.

Sorry, but that is just the way things look to me.

I remember at the time of the vote was to give autonomy to the P5. Had that not happened the P5 would have walked. This is why the NCAAhas nothing to do in input in the football FBS playoffs.  Their only football power is with FCS, DII and DIII

  • P5 means Power 5 Conferences.  There is no way they will change the rule to allow independent BYU into their party over the agreed to addition of the Group of 5 top ranked conference champion.  If anything they would include another P5 conference member, but they won't. The highest ranked Group of 5 Conference Champion will play in the Access Bowl.  That is why I didn't include BYU in the group of 5 teams ranked over MU above.

They, along with Liberty, Army, UCONN, UMASS and NM State are all independent and can NOT take the G5 NY6 spot.
You did it correctly.  BYU, is not a G5 school.
