Report on Metro News late Tues. afternoon quoted a MU communications official saying that about 6 buildings on campus received some flooding from the Monday deluge that hit Huntington.
One of particular concern, sports wise, is the Henderson Center. The same official was quoted as saying that there was flooding in the men's dressing room, including damage to some "duct work" that would require "weeks" to repair, replace, etc. Just wondering the State Government has blanket insurance on its higher education capital stock and whether said insurance includes "flood" insurance.
Hopefully, MU officials as well as those in the City Administration will assess as quickly as possible and initiate attempts to apply for any financial assistance available, including perhaps federal funds. Given Charleston's "history" of responding with "lightning speed" to MU's campus needs, including building maintenance, renovations, and support for capital projects at MU in general, just wonder how this will affect MU sports going forward in the immediate future, particularly sports like men's and women's basketball, and volleyball. Certainly, without additional information, this situation seems far from ideal in terms of practices, preparations, etc., for these teams, personnel, coaches, etc. Hopefully, the situation can be resolved quickly and satisfactorily as basketball teams get closer to the season, with volleyball season already underway, but again given history, I'm not so optimistic.
