  • I?ll take a turn?

    AAC:
    Temple: don't care about them
ECU: would love to play annually
    USF: would like playing annually
UAB: love them good in football and basketball
Memphis: they will be gone soon
    Tulane: don't care about them

    Sun Belt:
Appy: would love to play them only in football
Coastal: would like to play them annually only in football
GA Southern: could care less about them
GA State: don't care about them
    ODU: absolutely in basketball
JMU/WKU: would like to play them annually
    Report

As a fan base, I think our fans would be more excited playing the SB schools more than the AAC. Just a southern based thing and more name recognition/history

  • I like the conference that 's going to give us the best tv deal with espn.  If we go to that conference we'll have made the right decision.

Taking some of the garbage with us that helps make our current conference suck, to go to another conference that sucks, so that we don't have to stay in our current conference that sucks. Sounds exciting!

Please explain how they suck while also acknowledging they?ve had multiple ranked teams the last few years (some at the same time) and have a real TV deal.

If you take the Sun Belt and compare it to what will be left of the AAC...and I'll even let you leave out Memphis...and still...if you look at endowments (which reflect the prestige of a university), athletic budgets, and top 25 rankings in the last 7 years for ALL teams in each respective conference...it won't even be remotely close. Look at facilities. Look at fanbases. Look at everything. It's not even close across the board.

I'm not going to waste 30 minutes of my life proving something on a message board that should be common sense.

  • OR....when CUSA loses 3-4 teams we replace them with either SBC teams or JMU/Liberty.

I really like CUSA East to be honest. It's just the terrible leadership from Judy and the Texas centered conference that gets me.

    That will not happen...dream on.

I didn?t ask you to compare it to the AAC. I asked how they suck as a league.

Let me know the next time someone whips out their endowment to score a touchdown on the field.

Rice has a huge endowment.   Bigger than any non-private 3-4 P5 teams put together.  Doesn't make them good at football.  Unless playing us, of course.
You don't have to build a conference out of stuffshirt teams with academic accolades and large endowments.  You can build a conference out of teams committed to winning football games.  And as soon as you start thinking you're too good for them is when they start whipping your @ss.  I'll take the scrappy little conference that could over the markets and potential, thanks.

That's hard to argue and is the biggest reason I'm interested in SBC.....more so than App St actually.

Haha. Ok then look at football success...pick something, anything. It's not close across the board. The "trash" Temple and Navy have been (AP) ranked as much in the top 25 since 2015 as every team in the entire Sun Belt combined.  I didn't even count the 3 times Memphis has been ranked, or the 3 times South Florida has been ranked, or the 2 times SMU has been ranked, or the 1 time Tulsa was ranked....all recent.

You don't even want to get into athletic budgets, or fan support, or facilities, or markets, or TV deals (even future).

Fawning over the Sun Belt is just the worst.

  • So the AAC has had 6 teams ranked since 2015. The Sun Belt has had 4.

It?s not fawning. It?s just being objective that the Sun Belt doesn?t suck. If you haven?t paid attention to them in over a decade you might think it?s the same old Sun Belt but it isn?t. If we don?t make the AAC the Sun Belt won?t be a bad backup. Judging by who the AAC is reportedly looking to grab the Belt might pass them like they did C-USA.

Neither does Memphis, right? Don't they still play in the Liberty Bowl?
