The Herd offense still seems to be a work in progress. The 3 and outs on offense has to get fixed. Marshall was 5 for 13 on third down conversions. Appy didn?t convert on 3rd down either, the difference was that Appy had 39 first downs and only made it to 3rd down 12 times four of which they converted. Marshall had 20 first downs the entire game, just shy of half the number Appy had. Marshall converted 5 of 13 third downs. This style offense simply can't afford to go 3 and out it has to put 7 points on the board or give the defense a rest.
The defense doesn?t have the depth to be on the field for 93 plays and 37:22 minutes. That was obvious late in the game. The Herd defense was clearly exhausted late in the game and it was evident in their play by missing tackles, getting blown off the line by the Appy offensive linemen, giving up big plays, penalties, and etc.
