  • Our LB's are run orientated.  I have said this for years ..... we are slow!!  The secondary has been recruit guys at 160lbs 5.9" in height and gte them to 175lbs.  Huff's HS recruited secondary players as juniors in high school are already bigger than our secondary players. The defensive scheme needs adjusted.  We have never been good on defense against an offense with quality rb's and accurate passers.  Not since Snyder played in the old CUSA and did well against Keenum and Chris Johnson.  We could not beat Rice last year.  WE got lucky with Covid and we were peaked at the start of the year last year or would have been sub .500.  Other teams caught up to our conditioning as season went on and we lost.
On offense the wr Caleb McMillon needs to play.  He is quick and shifty.  He has done well in his opportunities.  He is good.  Also, use Knowledge inside the 10 fast, big and physical.

The CBs are a real issue. They are often in position but just get out jumped out out muscled. They're clearly too small.

  • The Herd offense still seems to be a work in progress.  The 3 and outs on offense has to get fixed.  Marshall was 5 for 13 on third down conversions.  Appy didn?t convert on 3rd down either, the difference was that Appy had 39 first downs and only made it to 3rd down 12 times four of which they converted.  Marshall had 20 first downs the entire game, just shy of half the number Appy had.  Marshall converted 5 of 13 third downs.  This style offense simply can't afford to go 3 and out it has to put 7 points on the board or give the defense a rest.

The defense doesn?t have the depth to be on the field for 93 plays and 37:22 minutes.  That was obvious late in the game.  The Herd defense was clearly exhausted late in the game and it was evident in their play by missing tackles, getting blown off the line by the Appy offensive linemen, giving up big plays, penalties, and etc.

  • Huff or Cramsey needs to learn situational awareness. When we got the ball back with 3:30 left in the 2nd quarter and knowing that they get the ball in 2nd half I would have run it to start rolling the clock. Instead we throw an incompletion, run, and then throw another incompletion, punt. Hardly anytime ran off the clock, and they punched it in. Sometimes we need to hang onto the ball and stop doing tempo. Imo, it would have prevented losses the last 2 weeks.

Nailed it, GD.  Huff's going to have to learn when to ease off on the offensive accelerator when certain situations dictate, up tempo offense or not!

  • Tempo isn't the issue, its play calling. We can still run tempo while RUNNING THE FOOTBALL!

There were multiple drives where we needed to run the ball, chew clock, and pick up at least one first down to rest our defense....Cramsey calls three pass plays.

We will never get to where we want or need to go with him calling the plays.
