  • A lot of buzz in the SV area about Huff being there for the game against South Charleston. He came in on a helicopter from what I was told.

Love seeing him out in the community and not taking the local kids for granted.

  • This is great PR, even if the Herd doesn't end up offering or signing any of the local current HS players.
It's also great to meet & greet young potential Herdidiots...we need to recruit fans, also.
This is more than recruiting, it's selling the local brand.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • Watched his press conference...I seriously have never wanted to see a coach succeed more than Coach Huff. He says and does ALL of the right things off the field.

  • Love the HUFF!  Really hope he wins big here, not only for selfish reasons, but for him also.  Seems like a straight forward and goal oriented coach.   Still think we have the talent to compete for a conference championship.  However, I believe I may have overlooked how a structure and culture change can affect how a team grows and plays.  Hopefully we can get back on track this weekend.  GO HERD!

  • I know his presence was exciting to the SV crowd and welcomed. It had been a while since an MU HC had been to a game.

[/quoteI would think the number of WV players on our team that our underclassmen would not support his contention about MU not having a presence, being around, for some time.  See my other post to count the number of players from our state (I did also put Fairland, OH player on the list). Somehow they got the word they were wanted, and recruited enough to sign here.

  • Point is, it isn't true, they were it and about. I hard it too, not sitting the messenger, just making a point that the contention can't be true for mos programs, and no value in staying it when it is so vividly incorrect.

Now add recruit or walk on after each one.  Then maybe put a list of FBS signees that didn't go to Marshall.

Whether they signed or not isn't the point at all, if they would have signed during Doc's tenure, they'll sign now. If they wouldn't have, they still won't.

Its a well known fact that most of Docs assistants did most of the recruiting then Doc would meet with them on campus. Occasionally he would meet with a kid in FL when on a bowl trip. Just ask one of the coaches. Legg will tell you.

Now imagine what this list would look like if these players had received WVU offers. I?m willing to bet it would?ve AT LEAST been cut in half. Look at the 247 and rivals profiles of each of these guys. They all have WVU listed as a team they have interest in but no offer. Not picking at Ethan Payne because I loved watching him run the ball against NCCU, but if you look at pics and interviews from him while he was at Poca, he had flying WV shirts on in almost every one you find. That is why Huff needs to be out recruiting not only players, but fans.

  • I'm not surprised. One of the first things Huff mentioned during his hiring press conference is a desire to "dominate the ring" and the importance of recruiting local talent within a 5 hour radius, and how it has the secondary benefit of creating future fans and supports local businesses.

The Herd's QB1 and QB2, as well as several other players are from WV, so obviously Doc recruited locally too. I have no idea how this compares to what Huff is currently doing. But it does show how important it is to have a Head Coach that's willing to be the face of the program, views the community as a stakeholder, and can effectively communicate.
