  • In JMU?s case, weren?t they basically told to leave by their conference?  I mean, they weren?t gonna face any kind of resistance at all if they decided to leave.

  • No way they are joining by themselves. Think this means we are joining too.

  • They'd still need a waiver to jump to FBS in one year, right?

This is only a football issue as far as I know. All other sports could compete immediately. Plus, given how the rules for football have been turned on their head, I expect this will get approved even if they have to request a waiver. It really is only there to discourage teams from jumping up. As it?s only a matter of time until the P5 makes some sort of break, the rule is now merely a punitive measure.

    Per CollegeAD:

JMU will be joining the Sun Belt July 1, 2022 in all sports. The three CUSA schools are still negotiating with CUSA about an early exit.

Edit: JMU has Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming & Diving and field hockey. Those sports are not sponsored by the SBC and their new conference is still TBD.

I wonder where the MU Women's Swimming go for a conference? I believe the MAC sponsors women's swimming?

  • Looks like GA Southern is the only school with Women's Swimming and Diving.  They compete in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA), "originally developed by four regional Division I conferences ? the ASUN Conference, Big South Conference, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and the Southern Conference ? to create a centralized home for their members with swimming and diving programs."

Only other is Little Rock, but aren't the moving.

JMU, MU and ODU all sponsor Women's swimming and diving and will be looking for new homes unless some other schools add it too.

Well, FT2, the HERD Women's swimming team handily defeated Bowling Green in a meet today in Huntington!  So it appears that they are currently "MAC" ready!!  :D
