  • Is Curfman the new Loop?

Curfman is becoming very valuable to this team in many areas.

  • Curfman has a better handle and is better on defense than Loop...not saying Curfman is great in those two regards.

Curfman's D is much improved and can handle the ball some

    Shoots great with feet set

  • I watched the postgame press conference and the Duquesne coach, though he blamed the loss on their own mistakes, said that this was the best Herd defense he had seen out of a Marshall team.  He was also very complimentary of D'Antoni's offensive scheme and spoke of the sophisticated passing drills the Herd does in warmups.

Until he stated that Marshall would be a middle of the pack A-10 team.  I understand that the A-10 is a good basketball league, but his team just got spanked at home by that Marshall team. What does that make Duquesne?

  • It sure seems like we have all the pieces to be a good team.  We need to stay focused and improve a little in all areas as we move thru the season.  Our defense has improved immensely.  I heard Kinsey say after the game, one game at a time.  That's a good way to approach it.  Finish the road trip strong and get ready for conference play.

There are a few teams in the A10 which are near being national powers. His statement isn't really out of bounds.
If this Herd team can learn from its mistakes when winning games, there is an opportunity that the statement might be inaccurate by the season's midpoint.

One thing that stood out last night was there were some missed assignments during the few times the Herd played that 2-3 zone.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • Some should just let it go.  There were so-called naysayers as I sure would have fallen under this category because we had reason to be critical of Dan and the team.  He has a 500 record over 8 seasons and we were terrible last year.

We heard the practice reports for years and many of those players never contributed or didn't even finish with Marshall.  If anyone is critical of this years team then they just choose to be negative.  I was very critical of Dan but he has proven to me a leopard can change his spots.  He shrunk the rotation, the new guys can actually play and we play defense and do t take 40 foot shots with no one h see the basket.

As long as I see this even if we suffer a loss it is a fun team to watch and root for.
Or you could have looked at film of the newcomers or otherwise thought about it rationally.  But, the naysayers got butthurt last year and confidently and ignorantly dissed this team preseason and erupted after first loss.  Don't distance yourself from your position, you made it and repeated it and were prepared to serve it up after one loss.

    You were wrong.

Stay tuned.  We may add a weekly post here for silly preseason quotes!  I'll go dig them up!!

That is what I never understood. I can see when someone is passionate  as a fan. But they were passionate and seemed to enjoy telling us how awful the team was. Now they have been backed into a corner and they want to slide on the bandwagon. Well except for Coalboy and he talks out of both sides of his mouth and gets twisted up like a pretzel.

  • I was wrong about this team. Don't care at all to admit that and am very happy that I was.

I also don't think that pessimism was an unrealistic outlook after the last few years coupled with the Queens loss. But the team has exceeded every expectation since then, and even Queens appears to be an above average low-major team this season.

Sure, some people on here were being d!cks, but most of us just want to see the program do well. The results were trending in a direction where it certainly wasn't unreasonable to think Dan might not have been the best choice for the program.

But again, this team is getting results and passing the eye test. Dan deserves all the credit for that and I hope they keep it going.

  • Did anyone see the social media video from the locker room after the game? Dan said that Duquesne has only lost 4 or 5 games at home in the last 5 years. I thought that was pretty amazing.

    Then I looked?
22-23 1 Home loss so far
    21-22 11 Home losses
    20-21 2 Home losses
    19-20 4 Home losses
    18-19 5 Home losses
Total in last 5 years: 23

Cmon, bust.  Admit it, now.  The only thing that gets "twisted like a pretzel" is when you, virtually in heat, start playing with yourself in anticipation of Coach D's appearance on the floor at every HERD practice session!!

  • We need to insert some more scoring / defensive player in lineup for about 6-8 min a game.  Get points and be a bully.
