  • in all 4 of our football losses combined, we lost by 33 points.  37 points from a perfect season if we beat each school by 1.  Man I hate that we had such an amazing championship defense and we couldn't put a conference ring on their fingers.

  • That can go the other way also.  We won some close games.  Probably ended up about where should have with a special win against ND.

Beating notre dame proved we had the talent. The let down here was coaching. The players played their hearts out to the best of their abilities, but you have to have a coach that puts them in a position to win. Losing Morrissey hurt bad, and caused alot of oline issues that popped up. You can't tell me we can run and pass block Notre Dame d line and can't block bowling green, et all. Lol

  • Well, will never convince me that the L at BG was anything but a giveaway.  They didn't win it; we LOST it!  Two fumbles/tos heading into the endzone for a go-ahead score (and probably the winning score on one).

Should be no worse than 9-3 heading into the Bowl Game, looking for a double digit winning record.

  • It was coaching to an extent and also putting all the eggs in the Colombi basket coupled with the switch to a bright eyed, green as grass QB.

We had games where a team would jump out to a lead in the 1st quarter and we would shut them out the next 3 quarters and our offense just couldn't score 6-8 points in 45 minutes of football and we would just lose and shake hands / walk off the field.

Going back a few months now, my impression of the BUGS game was that the team lost focus, turned the ball over 3 times, and the offensive line was a like a screen door on pass protection.  Columbi passed for 338 yards and Laborn ran for 157 yards.  BUGS leading rusher only could only muster 35 yards and McDonald passed for 282 yards.  Marshall put up 547 total yards on offense vs. BUGS 377.

Should have, could have won that game if not for the mental mistakes and 3 untimely turnovers.  The coaching staff was still using the 2 QB system at BGSU.  Columbi was 23/34 for 338 yards with a 9.9 yard average with 1 yard rushing.  Fancher was 3/4 for 18 yards and a 4.5 yard average with 24 rushing yards.  The BGSU defense was exploiting the weakness on the Marshall OL which resulted in BGSU making 7 TFL and 4 sacks.  In comparison, the vaunted Herd defense had 7 TFL and 2 sacks.  This was one of the games that Columbi was running out of bounds rather than throwing the ball away which resulted in some fan criticism.  Columbi ran 9 times for 1 yard, his long was 11 yards.  Fancher ran twice for 24 yards his long was 17 yards.  BGSU has one of the worse defenses in FBS ranked 105 in total defense and 113 pass defense.  No reason for the Marshall offense to allow that much pressure on the Herd QBs.

What tipped you off, HerdEcon, that BG had a bad defense?  Couldn't have been the fact that the HERD hit the 30-point mark, scoring wise, could it?  ;D
