  • Older Htown residents will recognize the name Joan Campbell,l who died January 7 at the age of 99. She was the widow of famous Huntington native, golfer William C Campbell. Campbell was a grad of Princeton and he served on the Marshall University Foundation. Mrs. Campbell was the mother of actor Brad Dourif. Her first husband died and his family founded the Standard Ulrtamarine Company near the old Field House. Another part of old Huntington disappears.

  • The MU President's Residence on 13th Avenue in Ritter Park was the former family home of the Campbell family.

Just remember during my MU days many decades ago, when Bill Campbell's amateur golfing career was in its heyday, he always impressed me as a real gentleman with class.  Even after his career waned that aura of class persisted in many other areas of his public life, including his tenure with MU.  Always represented Huntington and West Virginia very well, IMO.  I imagine the same is true of Mrs. Campbell.  RIP and condolences to her family.
