  • WKYT-TV in Lexington confirmed that the game is to be played but they reported that no date had been announced.

    OK

Luke Creasy is saying he got confirmation from Dan that the UK game is the 24th.

  • You would really enjoy that.

Yes I've been an anti Marshall basketball fan for years. You aren't very smart by saying that.

So Danny complained the last couple years about traveling and then playing a big boy during a long road trip. He said the team was wore out when we played S Miss a few years ago and lost by 50. But we are going to the Caymans and play 2-3 games and then straight to Lexington and play UK? I just don't see the consistant thinking. He doesn't want to go to Akron, Morehead and EKU anymore because he thinks their gyms aren't good enough for us. But then he schedules Queens? It's all fine but just stay with your theory.

  • Shame on me for clicking on this expecting a positive, or at least neutral and rational basketball discussion. There is really no where to get bball information without the thread getting hijacked.  I always want MU to succeed, but this year's basketball season would be especially sweet.

You mean like you hijacking my post and saying I would love to see Marshall lose?

  • Glad to see UK on the sked.  Heck, we play them in men's soccer, and recently played, I believe, in baseball, also maybe softball. Just hope we are getting a decent $$$$$ guarantee for the game.  MU needs to play MONEY GAMES with the "Big Boys", EVERY YEAR in sports like football and men's basketball, IMO.  At least for as long as such games are still available for the "Have Nots" of the college world like MU.  With the ongoing turmoil/chaos in the Power Conference realignments and continuing NIL issues the opportunities for the HERD to play those foes in the future may be numbered!

As for HERD playing UK in football, believe the teams last clashed in Lexington back around 1959 or 1960 or thereabouts when Charlie Snyder was MU's head FB Coach (later coached Bobby Pruett in the early-mid 60s).  UK won something like 55-0 and believe they were coached by a guy named Charlie Bradshaw, who, IIRC, later got into trouble for running very spartan, almost military like practice sessions.  Being in the SEC I'm sure most UK football fans feel like the gap between UK and a "Marshall" which existed back in that era is about the same today!!

Of course, this doesn't include the infamous freshman game of 1968 that led to the NCAA sanctions of '69.  Google it, youngsters....

UK did beat Marshall in 1960 55-0, but Blanton Collier was the UK head football coach. Collier replaced Bear Bryant who left UK to coach Bama. Collier was also the head coach of the Cleveland Browns after being fired by UK. Collier was apparently well liked by his players.

  • I read somewhere that the AD made DD take this game. Not DD idea. Years ago I believe UK played Marshall in Cincinnati when Ronny Dawn was playing for the Herd. Other than the UK game and the Bahamas trip I would expect the same OOC menu we saw last year. MAC schools and other teams that are mostly not very good or fan appealing. It might be a long season but hopefully FB and soccer will carry us through the new year. And I expect women's BB to be pretty good. I would call being over .500 in men's BB a good year this season.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

We need to play games like this every year. For the benefit of the program and players. I would hope DD would see the benefits as well.

As a long-suffering Browns fan, my aging mind completely forgot about Collier's years at UK.  I know Bradshaw was at UK, perhaps in the later 60s.  just remember that his practice sessions were notorious and described as bordering on "torture"!!

  • I don't know but let's get something on the books with the football programs.

Well, one thing for sure, Spears is going to have to roll up his sleeves and get real busy and start booking some football opponents.  After next year and perhaps 2025, the HERD has gaps in its football schedules for about the remainder of the 20s, including NO OOC games scheduled in the later years of this decade.  Next season we go on the road to BOTH VA TECH and NC State of the ACC.  Reminds me of the year when we played AT Ohio State and AT Georgia on consecutive Saturdays!  Played them both real tough, too!!
