  • Duke takes down Number 9 Clemson 28-7. I guess someone else didn't play well in their first game.

I guess you need to take every game seriously, no matter the competition?

  • With everything changing in college football, I really wish they'd do away with pre-season rankings.

IMO, it gives a lot of teams (pretty much big name P5 schools) an unfair advantage and provides a cushion if they lose.

They should wait after 2-3 weeks of games, assess the teams, then rank them.

  • Sunbelt Conference member Arkansas State lost to Oklahoma 73-0 and it was 45-0 at halftime. Wow!  OU was ranked 20th.

Tell that to the Clemson fans who probably lost any chance to get to the playoffs. If you think MU fans are upset about last week, read some of the Clemson messages boards. FYI the LSU boards also in the meltdown mode.

  • Clemson has peaked as Dabo has not adjusted to using the portal.  Probably a double hit was that the QB he pushed out went to Oregon St and now has them in the top 15.  Clemson will be a top 25 team year in and year out because of resources but likely not too 5.

On the flip side, look what a difference coaching makes as Florida State is loaded and their coach has several portal players.

One of the things that my older daughter & I bond over is the basic gut-hatred of Clem(p)son. The inserted 'p' is how most pronounce it...SC residents included.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • I'm not even sure it was a matter of taking them lightly. I think Duke is just the better team. They certainly have the far better QB.

Elko is really building something there. Went 9-4 in his first season last year with all of the losses coming by one possession.

SB teams play in week 1 ran the gamut, FT2.  Contrary to low of Ark. St., there was Texas State's shocking W over the Big 12's Baylor.  Glad the Herd has the "State" team from Arkansas and not the one from Texas on this year's schedule!
