  • I'm confused. It seems there is a near universal outcry that college football needs serious reform, with regard to the ridiculous coast-to-coast conference alignments, NIL, length of TV timeouts, etc. etc.

And yet, despite this seemingly universal outcry, it seems that the schools are doing a hard double down on all these things. It's as bad as it's ever been. The same people who identify the problems seem to be the same ones leading college football headlong into its demise.

  • Unless the fans and networks stop forking out the money, don't expect any real change.

  • As long as the big money continues to roll in to the large state institutions nothing will significantly change unless it changes to help them bring in even more money.  Change may get lip services but that's all it is, lip service.  I think most fans want change more than the schools themselves.  Most people and particularly large institutions are afraid of change, especially change that may affect their dominance (or perceived dominance) and bottom line.  Money is driving college athletics particularly football and men's basketball.
