  • Well, the questions were not audible again.

Chickens3!t press gaggle did not question him about why no passes were called against their loaded up D, tacitly accepting Huff's explanation that we were trying to find an extra hat to account for ODU's "superman" mike LB to run the ball.

Nor did they ask about the questionable call for playing for the FG with 8+ minutes, the obvious alignment problems caused by D signals arriving late, or the problems getting plays off during a home game.

  • We are blessed to have a head coach who speaks in depth football at a press conference. In depth for a coach at a press conference during the season at least.

I actually like Huff more and more.

    I agree with you.

The problem is with the flock of media. They do not ask questions that really probe what he & his staff were thinking with what appears, to the rest of us, to be very questionable decisions and/or oversights.

I said this after last game. I love hearing him explain and break things down. Very refreshing.

  • The man is 20-10 in less than 2.5 seasons as a head coach, at the smallest, poorest public D1 program in the nation.  He?s 10-1 with Fancher and had the sense to bench the QB who won at Notre Dame.  There isn?t a swinging weenie on the page who could hold his jock as a coach.  Maybe lay off with the stupid negativity.  It?s ain?t how you win.  It?s whether you win, and he does.

People still remember that Pruett was 22-4 in his first two years of FBS and didn?t lose his 10th game until year 5.  The simple fact is that along as fans from that time period are still alive that will be the standard every coach will be compared to.

That's certainly true, but its a much different time; and you could not ask for a better time for Marshall to enter into D1 football than when we did. The planets aligned superbly and we'll not see that stretch of success ever again. Just too many things have changed in the last two decades. People need to understand that.

  • Moss and Kresser would never be at MU with todays rules.  Also, we would have lost some of our better players with the free for all transfer and NIL cash.

Big schools are at a much greater advantage today then the 90s.  WVU can't even be relevant in the last 10 years.  We can hold on to the 1 offs like the ND win to help keep some relevancy and also just enjoy being in a regional conference with like minded school.

Times have changed. The "local" media that covers MU is almost nonexistent. The major state newspapers have merged so the cut down on the reporters. The Charleston and Huntington papers both use to send a reporter; columnist and photographers to cover the games in the old days. The Beckley and other state newspapers use to send staff to cover MU. The print media is disappearing, just look at the former reporters that are no longer in journalism.  You can't expect hard hitting questions when there are not reporters to ask the questions. In smaller cities and towns, and some large cities too, sadly that's the case.

Huff wasn't gifted the winningest program of the 2000's either.

JMU is seeing it.  It's not gone, we've just settled for bad to mediocre for a long time.  I think Huff is trying to get the winning culture back.  Not sure he can do it, but he's taking down teams we've never beat and winning games that were a loss in the recent past when we got down.  i agree that it probably wont happen overnight anymore for established teams, but the whole Sunbelt seems to have found their stride, even the "bad" teams.

I won't even be mad if we don't win the Sunbelt, if we go out swinging.  Disappointed, sure, but there's not a gimme in the whole conference except maybe USM and even they fought like hell when Texas State eased up a bit.  Scared the hell out of them.  We're in a tough, tough league.  if you win the Sunbelt, you are legitimately one of, if not the best, teams in the G5 and 70% of the P5 or more.

We've been the best before, but we haven't been in the best league before.  Big difference.  Used to be biggest fish in a small pond, now we're a medium fish in a medium pond.  Everyone is capable of pushing us around and anything we get will be earned.  That is what the fans need to accept as our new reality.  We didn't take advantage of many years of feasting on minnows and we got fat and complacent.  Now we're in better shape, but it's like CUSA 2.0, when we first joined.  There are decent sized sharks in this pond and they are hungry.
