  • Pretty unimpressive game so far.  The Herd put one in the back of the net around the 30 minute mark but Marshall was deemed offsides.  Sloppy play led to a good ODU chance but no shot materialized.  0-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

  • 0-0 at half.  Herd with a whopping two shots.  ODU had two shots also.

  • We sure don't look like the team we were just a couple of weeks ago.  Not much push forward.  Hopefully we can pick it up in the second half.

  • Could feel that goal coming to start the 2nd half. Looked really in control since the latter part of the 1st half. Nice little volley there by Amaro off the corner.

WVU is down 1-0 at UK. Would be nice if these scores hold.

  • 2-0 final. Very nice 2nd half and much needed win.

WVU fell to UK so we can clinch the 2 seed with a tie or better on Tuesday. UCF held on so we need to win and hope they tie or lose if we want the 1 seed.

  • Fireworks in the league tonight...

    Kentucky 1 - WVU 0
Kentucky gets back-to-back wins vs #1 Marshall and #2 WVU. Hands the Mountaineers their first loss of the season.

    South Carolina 4 - Coastal Carolina 3
Coastal finds a goal in the 88th minute to level the score at 3, but South Carolina finds a game winner with 33 seconds remaining and clinches a conference tournament birth.

    UCF 3 - Georgia State 2
Knights take a 3-0 lead, but hold on in Atlanta as the Panthers put on a late threat.

    Marshall 2 - ODU 0
ODU's Dawson had final home game, card fest in Norfolk.

    JMU 5 - Georgia Southern 1
JMU with a statement win to take the #4 position in the league.

We regained control of hosting the first two rounds of the conference tournament.  Current standings heading into the final matchday...

    UCF 19
    Marshall 18

    JMU 12
    South Carolina 11
    Kentucky 9

  • It  seemed to me that we had a lot of players playing today that do not typically get much playing time.  Maybe I am mistaken.  Was curious Grassie was trying to keep yellow card accumulation or possibly we have some injuries.  Thanks for any info?

  • Seems JMU has found their game and will not likely be a cakewalk for UCF.  UK playing as well defensively as anyone. The tourney is going to be a real battle. A rematch could be looming in Sb tourney 2nd round with WVU depending on how things go. MU dropped just behind Notre Dame into the #2 spot in RPI. Notre Dame ripped Pitt 6-0 in South Bend.

Duggin has missed last two matches. Bamford filled in well tonight. Sternagaard (sp) did not play tonight either. Nor did Marco Silva...again. We need to get healthy ASAP. On flip side Adjetey had the great cushion goal in 79th minute shortly after entering the game. Aoumaich has seemingly disappeared from the offense since sitting out his yellow card accumulation match. I guess his brother is RS since he hasn't played at all this year. MU went 4 halfs in row without scoring until potting two in 2nd half tonight. A win vs SC and a UCF tie or loss would give MU regular season championship and #1 seed.

Basketball starts exhibtion season vs Upike I believe. You can also stick around to watch the men's game:)

  • Good rundown Chris.
The regular season trophy does mean a lot to Chris Grassie and the team.
I've learned enough about soccer/futbol culture to realize that hardware collected in any competition matter to all clubs.

I'm hoping that FUC blows it and the Herd beats the Gamecocks.

Seems to me in both of our losses Duggan missing was critical factor. Most/many of the non-breakaway goals WVU had and both UK goals came from shots or entry/crossing passes from our back L side, I believe Duggan is mostly posted there. Seidu, subbing for a briefly injured Okiyoshi, committed the foul leading to a PK for the 1st UK goal while the 2nd came from an entry pass from the L side as well.

Not saying we are unbeatable but it seems having Duggan back there really seems to give us a top-flight boost.

I think this had more to do with shoring up the defense than yellow cards. Duggan is out with an injury. He?s our rock on defense. With him out, we?ve had issues on the back line.

You saw a lineup of essentially 5 defenders, as Godard started at midfield.  Grassie also inserted Bamford at center back to get more seniority there. It helped. When the 2 freshmen are paired, they look like freshmen.

Also, inserting Adjetey in the 2nd half should happen more often. His speed causes problems, especially when the defense is getting tired late in the match.
