  • This team feels different than other teams Dan has had in the past. I like the way they play. This could be a very fun year.

Agree. But it is game one with several new faces.

  • Sorry but I'm seeing thru the competition. Still no fundamentals. Bad defensive lateral movement. We have some decent talent but still to much street ball and not disciplined with fundamentals. You can get by with that against these last 3 opponents but will be much harder against solid competition.

So instead of his average conference finish of 6th place we might be a 5th place conference team?

  • We won by 16. Beat a team we should have beaten. Last year we did not do that.
    Nice start.

  • Radford played North Carolina tough tonight. Radford was only down 5 at the half. They trailed by 15 points with under a minute to play.

I like some of the things Nutter brings to the team. Some of the things he does will not show up on a stat sheet. But he moves well without the ball. He takes charges. He didn't really seem to hurt us. I think we needed one more guard off the bench to really help this team.

Martin got better as the game moved along. Kid has a good first step off the bounce for a guy his size. He is nifty around the basket. He would have had more but Curfman & Voyles have to recognize him quicker when he cuts or rolls to the basket.

Crawford gets after it. He does some good things.

Curfman isn't much of a creator off the dribble and screen game. I don't think Dan can run the same sets as he did with Taylor.

Voyles needs to give the ball up some. He did some good things, but his shooting percentage is not so great.

Fricks is real good in a fast-paced, transition game. He did hit a nice pull up jumper late in the game in the half-court set with a man on him.

FT shooting has to get better. A mid-major should not be shooting in the 50 percentile range. We were outrebounded tonight as well against a team that was much smaller than us.

We will get better as we get in better game shape. But we will see a lot better teams than what we saw tonight. We need more of our half-court sets to go to the frontcourt players. We just aren't as talented in the backcourt as in years past. Some good, some bad tonight against a below average team.

  • JMO, Obina just disappears so often, by this stage he should b comfortable in his role and dominating the inside, instead you have to wonder ?Where is he??

I agree Voyles is good addition but I also agree, he appears to b a ball hog at times too.

I liked some things I saw from Crawford, he seems to have talent. He also needs to grow up and quit with the face palming, you played basically a D-2 team tonite

Once again , Danny proves he doesn?t know how to use TO?s to break up opponent runs. Up 20 and just as quick reduced to single digits while ?the statue? just stood there , arms folded.

FT?s continue to b a bugaboo for Dantoni teams. Just can?t get it done.

Did Conner stay in the dorm tonite? Non-factor, I expected more from him.

First 5 min or so, fun to watch, after that so-so . Again JMO

I liked Martin, he?s a gamer i think. Little rough around the edges but he?s gonna make u have to b aware of him.

Don't remember what the lead was when D'Antoni called the timeout, but he was not happy with Fricks. Got totally outhustled for a rebound. I know it was in the first half. A number of our guys need to more careful when it comes to fouls. As for Connor, I told my wife during the game we need more from him than four points and four fouls going forward.

I thought Martin gave us something that we haven't had since James Kelly and that is  toughness in the paint. He just needs to watch the silly fouls.

I think many will like Cam Crawford. His hustle was a big thing tonight.

  • A win is a win.  And certainly in game one, all of us fans can point to a bunch of positives as well as a bunch of negatives.  So can our coaches.  It was only ONE game, but a plus to me would be that it appears that we may have more offensive firepower across the board this season as opposed to a basically more of a two-man attack like last year (Kinsey and Taylor).

HERD now has a significant stretch of games AWAY from the CAM, starting at the Greenbrier on Fri. vs. Radford.  Then comes three games in the Islands followed by a trip to UK two weeks from Friday.  Hopefully we can get some Ws offshore and play a representative game down in Lexington.

After that we play some pretty decent MAC foes in a relatively short stretch, and UNC-Greensboro.  Both Toledo and Ohio U are on the road in venues traditionally tough on the HERD and we have one of MU Fans' all-time "favorites", Little Cryami, at the CAM.  At the end of that stretch of games, I'd say we'll have a pretty good idea of how well this Year 10 Thundering HERD Team will play overall as this season progresses!!
