  • Figured we could try to keep the names in one thread as I for one love reading all the names people come up with.

Who do you want as OC? Realistic options only lol

I'd like to find an OC who could potentially bring a stud QB with him. Maybe poach a successful FCS combo.

  • I suggested this guy when Cramsey was leaving.  He's still my top pick.

"In 2022, the Lion offense averaged 35.3 points per game and 439.8 yards per contest, both good for the FCS top 20. Southeastern was also 13th nationally with 291 first downs on the way to the 2022 Southland Conference championship. John Allen was named SLC Offensive Lineman of the Year and was among fellow SLU All-SLC offensive honorees Gage Larvadain, Carlos Washington Jr., Ivan Drobocky and Jhy Orgeron.

Stevens, who also coaches the quarterbacks, engineered one of the top seasons by a quarterback in FCS history by Lion signal caller Cole Kelley in 2021. The Southland Conference Player of the Year, Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year, Walter Payton Award runner up and consensus All-American threw for 5,124 yards and 44 touchdowns on 406-for-552 passing (73.6 completion percentage), while also rushing for a team-high 491 yards and 16 touchdowns."

  • The Western Kentucky coach was on the hot seat several years ago with a bad offense. He went out and hired Houston Baptist's OC and star QB. And you know how that turned out. It can be done if a coach knows what he's looking for.

  • It looks like Dana Holgorsen will be available. I jest as he is going to get a big paycheck for not coaching.

This is the issue with hiring position coaches for head coach. Regardless of what happens with Huff, our next HC at very least needs to have experience as a coordinator.

  • I think he would come here, realistically, as it's quite a step up from Southland FCS to arguably best G5 league.  Cost of living here and other factors should be very close to Louisiana, with almost certainly more pay.  And he would frequently be playing games in that region so wouldn't be estranged from family and friends.

  • Bryon would be top choice.  The most likely and realistic fit would be former OC Tony Peterson!!!

  • Want? Byron or Chad. Who will we likely get? An FBS position coach or an FCS OC.

  • An OC with a proven track record.  Most likely going to come from the FCS ranks or from a team that could score 100 points but would give up 200 points on defense.

As far as Tony Petersen is concerned we have been down that road.  Many fans were glad he left when he did.  Good QB coach but not what we need at OC.  Fired from Illinois after one season as OC and been a part of at least two coaching staffs (ECU and Minnesota) whose tenure was cut short due to poor on field performance or underachieving.  Not at all the kind of track record we are looking for.  It's also interesting that he wasn't retained by the incoming coach at App State after Shawn Clark left.  Those are just some of his on the field issues.

  • I like the idea of dipping in to lower ranks for an OC that's put up a lot of points and yards.  If that OC is out there and he has a stud QB to bring with him all the better.
