  • New rule in the hiring process.  Never ever hire a football coach in any capacity who is from wvu or has played there!!!

Who the in the heck approved that at MU? Talk about a waste of money for a coach who in less than 10 years is only 33 games above .500 playing a traditionally weak schedule and only one post season appearance. He was a high school coach and no college would hire him except for maybe a WVIC school.

If MU is going to waste money on Dan, maybe I should redirect my contributions to the academic side. Paying him and he doesn't even recruit, unbelievable.

  • someone's given him a huge raise at some point along the way.  i'm pretty sure when he was hired, he was given basically the same package as what herrion had gotten.

as of Nov '17, his pay package had been reported at $300,000 a year plus incentives

as of Jun '20, total compensation was $550,000

so he's been given a $250,000/yr raise since covid (per herd2win)?!?!?!  that's insane!

  • not saying i can agree or disagree.
according to what i've seen/read, Spread Offenses have been dominate in CFB for about a decade.  it might stand to reason that the DC job is the most difficult.  even though everybody plays with the same deck of cards, Ds are naturally at a disadvantage before any snap by not having the element of surprise.

It's not the spread that's giving DC's fits.  It's the RPO, honestly.  With the spread a defense has to be sound horizontally and with using spurs and vipers, matching the spread has gotten easier.  With the RPO, defenses have to be right both horizontally and vertically.  We ran the Run, can't pass over 5 yards, can't catch, can't block, might as well screen pass-option.  So don't judge the RPO by our version of it.

    Unreal!

I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I think the coach at Davis & Elkins (who has done an unreal job there) manages a college roster better than Dan. Now think about that for a moment.

I used to be a guy that was really in Dan's corner. I loved him. I supported him hard. But the last three years of his nonsense and lazy approach to the roster has made me turn completely against him. I watch some of these small college coaches in WV work their fanny off for $50,000 a year if lucky. Some of them find diamonds in the rough......work with McDonald's recruiting budgets........and are innovative with the game. Yet we have a guy that has bucket full of excuse cards as to why we CAN'T be good when we have a loss.

If he is really making $800,000, then I can't call it other than I see it: he is fleecing the fan base. I really hate to have to post this type of stuff because I like the guy deep down and some of the things he has done here. But him not going out with a quality season last year and returning at age 76 so he can collect a full time coaching salary while putting in part time effort just disgusts me.

Dan just reminds me of the last guy in the office and the first one to leave.

We feel the same way. Some people think I have a vendetta and I don't. I'm just sick like you said of him coasting and not giving it his all. He runs a daycare center more than he runs a D1 program. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and he just doesn't get it. When he does leave and if they hand the program to one of the assistants then I won't be back. I'm hoping the next hire will be an up and hungry good one.

Only in backward West Virginia.  In any modern and progressive State, Danny D. would be awaiting trial for LARCENY and/or FRAUD!!!

  • I wonder how much Dan is being paid, the last number I heard was $250K? If Dan really loves MU as everyone says he does, he would not accept the buyout and give the money back to MU.

His wages for 2022 was over $677,000.

2023 should be released sometime at the end of January, be curious what it is now with the extension.

  • Odd doing it before a bowl game. Oh well.

Not really. It gives us more time to find replacements and gives those guys more time to find a new job.

With the new early signing period in December it also allows us to hire replacements so recruits who may be inclined to sign in December get the opportunity to know who their position coach or coordinator is going to be.
