May 2024 saw the groundbreaking of Marshall University?s new Cyber Security Institute on the NW corner of 4thAvenue and Hal Greer Boulevard. The building represents a culture-shift as MU prepares to compete in the 21stCentury.

The new Cyber Security Institute will not be an island of technological academia, however. It will be connected to the community. Local restauranteur Ralph Hagy has announced that he will be opening a Mediterranean market on the ground floor of the building. Hagy is the owner and founder of La Famiglia on 6th Avenue,
The new market, called ?Via Lombarda Mediterranean Market? is slated to open in the fall of 2026.
According to Hagy, Via Lombarda will feature a full ?Italian style? caf? and gelateria (Italian ice cream parlor). The market will showcase fresh mozzarella and other cheeses, wine, and olive oil. Additionally, they will offer La Famiglia?s famous hot sauce, vinaigrette, fresh made pasta and pizza dough, and extra virgin olive oil; as well as TuttoCalabria products imported from Italy. That?s not to mention salads, Italian pastries, and trays of meatballs, lasagna, and manicotti.
