I believe this helps with recruiting.  All these guys want to play at the top level of the game. 
Playing these types of games allows them to do that. 
They also may believe that if they have a good showing against these big schools, that may help them get an offer from one of the schools at that level....
Also a big financial boost for MU, which we REALLY NEED.
Win/win for all involved, even in a loss.
