  • A lot of posters complain that Marshall doesn't reach out to other parts of the state or Marshall should expand its online courses. The below information looks like MU is trying to reach out and expand at least one program to cover parts of WV.

Professional Pilot Program in Martinsburg accepting applicants for fall
"Marshall University?s Bill Noe Flight School has expanded its Professional Pilot, bachelor?s degree program to Martinsburg, West Virginia. Starting this fall, aspiring pilots can pursue their passion for aviation in the scenic eastern panhandle region.
The Professional Pilot, B.S. program in Martinsburg offers students a unique, hybrid approach. Students can take Marshall University courses online while completing FAA-approved flight training through Marshall?s Bill Noe Flight School (BNFS) at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport (MRB). This flexible format allows students to balance academic coursework with hands-on flight experience, preparing them for successful careers in aviation."

I like the outreach to potential students in Virginia and Maryland, as well as, WV students.
    Flight Training
"Aviation enthusiasts from West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia can obtain the highest quality flight training at Marshall?s new Martinsburg facilities. Marshall University flies its aircraft and instructors to Martinsburg to provide flight training to members of the local community."

Marshall has had a branch of the Byrd Center in Martinsburg (and in Bridgeport) for years, so expanding the flight school to those areas makes sense.

  • Around the mid-60s or so, MU got a decent number of students, several of whom I knew, from Northern VA., Alexandria, Arlington, etc.  That area has only exploded, population wise and geographically, expanded outward, ever since.  Of course, at that time George Mason U. began as a former one building branch of UVA, IIRC.  Now GMU is one of the, or the, largest Universities, enrollment wise, in the Old Dominion.  There is also another source of potential students in the area through the large Community College. NOVA, in the region.  Hopefully, MU doubles down on its student recruitment efforts throughout the entire DC Metro area!!!  Can't get em if you don't try!!!

A university presence and interesting major near Virginia, Maryland, and DC, which we heavily recruit all 3.  Figure it out, dbag.  It's also a heavily populated area with out of state students that may increase general enrollment at Marshall to help fund sports programs and pay for recruiting.  Not to mention an athlete may choose to come to Marshall because their brother or cousin or friend graduated from the aviation program at Marshall and is doing well for themselves.  Lots of ways it could help, but zero ways to help if it isn't there.   Now go crawl back in your hole of misery.

  •  We are also expanding to the Northern panhandle...

WHEELING ? A new flight school ? jointly piloted by West Liberty and Marshall universities ? is planning for takeoff from the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport in the fall of 2024.

Officials from both WLU and Marshall were among those at the airport Thursday to officially announce the future satellite location of Marshall?s Bill Noe Flight School on the WLU campus.

Despite the intense haze, those from Marshall arrived Thursday in the Cirrus SR20 aircraft used by the school. Those present had the opportunity to view the planes, and even sit in the cockpits.

Once the satellite site opens, there will be an assistant chief assigned there after being selected by the Federal Aviation Administration, explained Nancy Ritter, director of the Bill Noe Flight School at Marshall University.

?That chief will work directly with the West Liberty people to make certain there are enough flight instructors, enough aircraft, and that the progression is moving forward,? she said.

  • Seems Pres Smith is trying for Marshall to capture the sky similar to how WVU has captured health care.
