Of course, and Brad has a plan to retain Huff and a contingency plan if that is not possible.
Today was Early National Signing Day. If an extension was reached or was even being negotiated it would have been announced in order to sure up our commitments. Instead we lost our QB because of the Huff situation. Smith and Huff are smarter than that. If thre was a possibility of an extension it would have been said.
No. What is going on is that Huff has messed around and burned himself and now he's pleading his case to the public in hopes it will persuade Marshall's BOG and Brad Smith to give him a new deal because if they don't he's going to be at the worst team in the FBS come Monday morning.
We found out with Dan what happens when you attempt to go head to head with Brad Smith. Brad was and probably is still a huge Dan D'Antoni fan, but when Dan dismissed Brad in the end if season meeting Brad fired him.
No one is bigger than Marshall and that is exactly how Huff has behaved the last 3.5 years. He used USM as leverage to get a bigger salary. From reports I've seen we were going to increase his other demands, but thr salary wasn't to Huff's liking and he or his agent thought using USM and Temple would push Marshall in a corner and that was the wrong move. Huff overplayed his hand.
He better be careful because while he's agreed to terms with USM I don't think the deal is final and him begging to stay at Marshall may cause USM to cancel the offer.
Maybe Huff has a tremendous showing Saturday and through a hail mary he gets extended. However Marshall sources are saying Tony Gibson is the new coach, NCST message boards are saying Tony Gibson is the new coach, and USM boards and sources are saying that Huff is their new coach. I also know someone related to one of the players that said that Huff has been trying to recruit them to follow him to USM.
Right now all signs point to Huff leaving. If we weren't playing Saturday this probably already would have happened.
