Topic: Gibson Applied For The Marshall Job in 2021?

I am not sure if this post from facebook is true, but it is interesting. Gibson apparently applied for the Marshall job when we hired Huff per Rich Rod.

It's been mentioned a few times that he was interested in the job.  Hamrick wanted Lambert if he couldn't have Doc and the board took a chance on Huff, wanting to break away from the old staff.  We probably couldn't afford Gibson at that time anyway.  Remember people were tired of Doc and we weren't pulling in much in attendance dollars after 2016, plus limited attendance for the 2020 season due to COVID.

He knows it is his only way to becoming WVU head coach in a few years. Have to have some HC experience. And it's smart business for the WVU boosters who made this happen, they need to see a sample size first. Perfect setup for them.

i don't think there is any way that wvu would hire a marshall HC.  TG served 2 stints as an asst coach up there, he's not alumni.  TG is dead to them now that he's a HC here.

This,   I don't know why people think TG  has some allegiance to WVU. HE DID NOT PLAY THERE!

Why oh why are Marshall fans so obsessed with the Pouties?  Too many threads eventually turn to some conspiracy theory about em and some cosmic death ray they are going to point at Huntington.   Do you think they talk about Marshall on their message boards?  Of course not.  I don't like them either, but for God's sake why do so many worry about what they do or think when they couldn't care less about what our programs do.  As Marshall fans our success or failure has nothing to do with them.  %^&* em.

WVU is not so high level that they would only hire someone with HC experience. Holgersen didn?t have HC experience before they hired him.

FYI: My OP has nothing to do with being "obsessed" with wvu. I just copying the post off facebook and to give the post some context on Rich Rod's comment about Gibson that had previously applied for the Marshall head coaching position. I thought some posters might be interested that Gibson had apply for the Marshall job when we hired Huff.

 I have no control on your or others posts on the subject.

This is what I say all the time WVU constantly talks about us.  What is the point of Rich Rod saying he?s never spent 1 second thinking about Marshall.  He obviously thought about us because he remembered to say our name in his speech. 

Holgerson, Huggins, Luck, and even Wren Baker all have talked about us in speeches, it?s usually to mock us, make a joke about us, tell their fanbase that they aren?t thinking about us, tell their fanbase theyre too big & bad to play us, unless its a 5 to 1, because they?re 5x bigger than us.

It?s sad it?s like their football record over us, is the last tiny thread holding together their massive egos.  Ever since the moved out of a watered down Big East.   Now they?re basically in the G6 conference and still can?t win.  If you take out the jelly donuts they play, and look at that are schools their size, they have a losing record.

Apparently  Rich Rod hasn?t really changed.  As soon as he got the HC job with the EERS and the word got out, all the remaining female WVU cheerleaders with eligibility entered the portal!!

Guys, for the 100th time, we didn't do a real search in 21.  The entire process was rigged for Lambert.  Then, it blew up and we got stuck with Huff.
