Chuck:  "It is appearing more and more likely that Mark Snyder will be named the next head football coach at Marshall University."

"No one is going to confirm at this point, but I believe that that is going to be the case on Thursday."  

Harper:  "WOWK is confirming there will be a press conference on Thursday.  The time of the conference has yet to be announced."

They also discussed the potential uncertainty with naming Snyder prior to the G&White game.  "The bloom is off that rose [game]," said Chuck.  "And it takes the players out of their comfort zone."

Harper also said the WVU game in '06 is "a virtual certainty."

Harper:  "There are reports out of Columbus stating Jim Tressell has contacted Ohio State's former defensive coordinator Mel Tucker to discuss the coaching situation at OSU.  Tucker is currently coaching safeties with the Cleveland Browns."

HUNTINGTON -- Have you noticed how quiet Marshall's search for a new head football coach has been?
There have been very few noisy headlines and hardly any hissing sounds from ill-informed sources going, "Pssssst!" Why, if it weren't for call-in sports talk radio shows, the silence would be positively deafening.
It isn't usually that way, especially at Marshall.
That wasn't the case preceding the hiring of Jim Donnan or his successor, Bob Pruett. It wasn't like that when MU was looking for a basketball coach two years ago, either.
So, why is it so quiet this time?
I think it's because it's a done deal.
In a week or so, I expect interim coach Larry Kueck to be hired for the permanent position. He was the odds-on favorite from the beginning and the only thing that has changed is Kueck has improved his chances with his impressive showing during spring practice.
As for the other contenders and pretenders? Here's a brief rundown:
Jim Donnan: The former Marshall coach reportedly was interested in the job and had the support of veteran fans. Put yourself in the Marshall administration's shoes. Could you hire the coach who initiated the jobs program that eventually resulted in MU being placed on NCAA probation even though Donnan wasn't implicated in any way by the NCAA? Probably not.
Doc Holliday: The University of Florida assistant coach is expected to be one of four candidates who will be interviewed. Although one sportswriter labeled the Hurricane native as being in the "young coordinator category," the truth of the matter is Holliday is neither young nor a coordinator. He is 47 years old and never has been a coordinator in his collegiate coaching career. Besides, can anyone actually imagine Marshall hiring a West Virginia University graduate as its head football coach?
Mickey Matthews: The former MU defensive coordinator is not a candidate. He recently received a five-year contract extension as James Madison's head coach and plans to stay with the defending Division I-AA national champs
Tony Petersen: The former Marshall quarterback and offensive coordinator is happy as co-offensive coordinator at Minnesota. He telephoned Tuesday to see what was happening with the job and ended the conversation with, "Tell Larry I'm happy for him."
Bob Pruett: The former coach wants to dispel some rumors. "I'm not coming back," he said. "Kayo (Herd Athletic Director Bob "Kayo" Marcum) talked to me about it a week after I retired, but I told him no. Like I said, it was just time."
Dave Roberts: The former Baylor head coach and South Carolina recruiting coordinator is expected to be interviewed. That's partially because he has head coaching experience. It's also because Lou Holtz really has pushed him hard to MU officials.
Chris Scelfo: The Tulane head coach and former Marshall offensive coordinator is lobbying for the job behind the scenes. On the surface, that seems odd. Scelfo recently was given a contract extension through 2009 and he is a native of New Iberia, La. His brother, Frank, is Tulane's offensive coordinator and his nephew, Anthony, is an incoming quarterback recruit.
So, why would Scelfo want to leave Tulane?
One reason is Marshall is a better job. Another factor is reportedly there was a major controversy over the recruiting of Scelfo's nephew. Tulane's administration allegedly raised the nepotism issue and wasn't going to allow Anthony Scelfo to be awarded a grant-in-aid. His father, Frank, was so upset by the situation he reportedly came close to resigning his offensive coordinator job.
Tulane relented and allowed the younger Scelfo to accept a scholarship, but the controversy has created a rift behind the scenes.
Yet, it doesn't appear Scelfo will get an interview at Marshall. Rumor has it that some bridges have been burned.
Mark Snyder: The Ohio State defensive coordinator and former Marshall player reportedly was interviewed Tuesday. But after only one season as co-coordinator, is he seasoned enough for a Division I-A head coaching job? I don't think so. Besides, why would any school want to bring in an Ohio State coach with the cloud of controversy that is hanging over the Buckeye program right now?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

1) Landon has about as much insight as Stevie Wonder.  

2) If Snyder gets hired and has read this article from Landon, I hope he bans him from any Marshall football event ever.  He not only questioned his credentials but also in a not-so-subtle way tried to link him to some of the NCAA violations going on at OSU.

BGT if we hire Snyder we will be going back and reading Landon's proagana like we just did that other "Why not hire Matthews Now" propaganda when we start to look for a new coach and we will look back and say Ahhhh yes thats why we didn't hire him.

It's similar to a "definate probability."  Maybe an "absolute possibility."  Or perhaps a "guaranteed chance."

We'll, we no longer need WVU. We, now help them more, than they can help us. I say no game. WVU, Go Fump someone else! You guy's have so much suction coming from ECU, you can't handle, or need the Herd!

I like Chuck -- I like how he turns a phrase, so to speak, but the palpable disappointment in his voice while talking about the expected announcement was ridiculous.  

As Dr. Phil would say... "It ain't about you, Chuck!"
