but I traveled for 8 years and over 2 million air miles. Duing that time, I had two crash landings and a near miss. I'm really surprised we do as well as we do in the skies. Now that the aircraft are older, our odds are even greater that folks that travel will have an incident, imo.
- Flying into Nashville from Atlanta, we assumed crash posiitions as they foamed the runway. An instrument light comfirming the front wheel was down and locked didn't come on. Two flybys (at night) and the tower couldn't confirm the wheel was down. It was.
- Flying into New Orleans from Charlotte, the plane desended into a notorious afternoon thunderstorm. The plane was hit several times by lightning, the last hit taking out the cabin power. Crash positions assumed, we landed safely.
- Flying into Philly from Pittsburgh, our 767 rear wheels touched the runway only to quickly pull back up into the sky. As we climbed, another aircraft taxied underneath us on the same runway after landing in the opposite direction.
