HUNTINGTON -- Ever since Kelly-Anne Billingy stepped on the volleyball court as a freshman for Marshall University, she has drawn the focus of the opposition.

Now a senior, Billingy is drawing the focus of her teammates as well.

"Finally, she is a vocal leader," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "She realizes this is her team. It is not like she wants that put on her shoulders, but she realizes that it is her team."

Billingy's presence on the court not only has been noticed at Marshall, but also nationally as she comes into her senior year as a two-time All-American honorable mention as voted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

However, there is one distinction that she held during Marshall's run last season that will not be on her resume this year -- Conference USA champion. Billingy set a conference record with 44 kills against Houston, but it was not enough as the Thundering Herd fell to the Cougars in the 2006 C-USA quarterfinals.

The 6-foot-3 outside hitter noted that leadership was an aspect from last year's team that was lacking, but she sees that changing this year. Marshall gets its chance for redemption Nov. 15-18 when the Herd hosts the C-USA tournament in Cam Henderson Center.
