HUNTINGTON -- Three seniors and a sidelined junior were selected as Marshall University football team captains on Wednesday.

In a narrow players' vote, center Doug Legursky, quarterback Bernard Morris, tight end Brian Shope and defensive end Albert McClellan were picked as 2007 captains. Legursky enters his fourth season as a starter, Morris has shared starting duties for two seasons and Shope is among the team's most physical players. McClellan, the lone junior, is the 2006 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year but is out for '07 because of a knee injury.

"Some of the players look up to me, and it feels good to have them honor me like this," McClellan said.

Legursky also has been injured during preseason practice but is expected to return well in advance of the Sept. 1 season opener at Miami (Fla.). The Beckley native is a repeat selection as a captain. He's been named to watch lists for three national awards.

"I appreciate the respect from our teammates," Legursky said. "All of the hard work and the time that we've put in to try to show leadership out there, it makes you feel good to have them vote you team captain."

Morris joins Legursky as a repeat captain selection. The fifth-year senior earned the Ironman Award for his offseason weight room work in 2006 and again was a summer workout leader this year.
