  • Because of sanctions resulting from things that happened here (under these x coaches whose names are popping up, now) ... Mark has 5 less seniors, 5 less juniours, 5 less sophomores, and 5 less freshman than he should have...

    (atleast 4 to 8 starters)

so blame Donnan or Bobby, or both, or whoever should have known... the  crap was going on.....before you stone Mark for doing the best he can with what he inherited.

Let me bench 4 to 8 UK starters and see if they can still win.

    Mark will only get better.
He is good for the university.

  • But honestly, if he doesn't get a couple of wins, I don't think he can weather the storm.  The good news is that we can compete with everyone left on our schedule.  The bad news is that everyone left on our schedule can compete with us.

  • First off, I believe we have been able to recruit the full 25 since 2005. So, we do not have 5 less sophomores or freshmen like you said.

2nd, that is not an excuse for being an ill-prepared and poorly coached football team. Probation didn't kick a fg up 10-6 against WVU and probation didn't prepare the game plan that lost to New Hampshire.

3rd, this isn't the first Marshall team to deal with this type of situation. The 2001 team had 12 players suspended for numerous games. Pruett somehow found away, why can't Snyder?

Every program in America has sometime of disadvantage. Some schools can't recruit props, some teams don't have their own football stadium, and some teams lose a teammate the day before a football game but these schools don't use that as an excuse.

Please. Stop with the excuses for Snyder. Yes, probation hurt but there is no way we should be 0-5 like we are.

  • Excellent post.  Fundamental mistakes are losing ball games and they continue...and continue...did I say..they continue?

  • People need to realize this is a young team with lot's on injuries. Mark will it get done but, he's not taking a quick fix approach (loading up on JC's). He's building a program for the long haul. See Rutgers for an example of staying with a coach and building for the long haul.

I agree it is time for Snyder to step up but those excuses of which you speak are facts. While he does not deserve to be defended he does deserve for the facts to be laid out.

  • I like the way Coach Snyder is building the program, and I don't look at injuries and a young team as an excuse: That's just the way it is right now.  On the Marshall roster of 101 players 17 are sophmores and 46 are freshmen: 63 underclassmen out of 101 players.  Sure lots of mistakes have been made on the field but that will improve with reps in practice and time.  Same with some of the calls:  The more confidence a coach has in their team the less conservitive the play calling is.  We all love our Thundering Herd, and we are all frustrated with the losses but Marshall will improve and be back on top.  Go Herd!

I'm tired of people trotting out the exception rather than the rule when supporting where we are.  You did notice that Marcum had to go back 30 years to find enough coaches who turned things around after looking miserable for their first couple of years, didn't you?  And some of the coaches on that list were over .500 from the start.  Also keep in mind that Rutgers plays in the smallest BCS conference so they are getting a pretty nice cut of money every year to reinforce their efforts.

There are at least 20 1-A coaches hired on average each year.  So in the last 30 years there have been 600+ hires and Marcum comes up with a list of 20 or so.  How easy do you think it would be to put together a list of coaches over the last 30 years that couldn't turn a program around?

SNyder may be okay eventually, but I guarantee you he won't get there with the staff he currently has.  He needs to bring in some position coaches that know what they're doing if he wants to save his job.

  • I am giving Snyder time but some of this staff needs to go ASAP. Starting with Kueck. If Kueck wants to stay on as QB coach then that is fine but he is not an O coor. at the college level. If he was he would have gotten a job LONG ago with another school. Find it funny that no one has offered him a job coaching the offense?

The O line coach has done a horrible job with what we have. No excuse. Our O line was supposed to be a strength this year.  I will give the D a pass since they have no one to play. I can't think of what else they can do this year. Next year we get back Albert for 2 years and have everyone else who has had playing time. That should help us more than hurt us next year.

I got a question. If Biagi is out there running around and practicing why can't he go back to holding for extra points. Spann was thrust into that job because of Biagi being hurt. Why is he not getting the job back now?

  • Compete, Hell.  We want to WIN.  Saying we want to be competitive is a lame a$$ excuse.  During the 70s we wanted to compete.  But we have gone far beyond that point.  Compete to me is just fielding a team and hoping for a win.  I think the university is getting into the warm and fuzzy feeling, in hiring past players and assistant coaches.  This is the wrong business to provide on the job training and wanting to compete.  If you don't produce you should be replaced.

  • Getting young guys experience is all well and good but they aren't getting any better.  They are still making the same dumb mistakes they were in game 1.
