  • There can be very little doubt that Marshall athletics is struggling in many respects and unfortunately we are at a crossroad and need to consider where  we go from here to rebuild athletics.

The overall athletic department needs leadership right now.  The replacement which should occur as soon as practical is the Athletic Director.  The current situation demands serious people who have the insight and skill sets necessary to help develop a plan to correct the course in athletics.  With all of the evidence in hand, can anyone seriously say that KO is the person they want helping craft this effort?

Whether any substantial changes are made in Football or not, at least a change at AD helps begin setting the stage.

As for the few who will make comments that we have played some big games he helped arrange, did you happen to see Texas play at UCF and some of the other early season games where big teams came to non-BCS schools?  Our AD said Tennessee would not come to Huntington.  He has no accomplishments in scheduling to talk about.
I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

  • You will not see any changes at Marshall for a very long time I believe. It is still the same old money running things and that won't change. Good ole boy system has destroyed this once proud program. Sucks our program takes a dive when the movie is out. Makes the program look like a joke when at the end they talk about how great we are. Man, what bad timing that movie was. It will not help us much by not winning. Had that came out when we were first starting to win it would have been great.

  • Marcum serves no purpose for Marshall.  He is the worst AD in DI.

  • Greenskeeper, I hope you are right.  I think we will get to see how committed Kopp is to athletics at Marshall at the end of the football season.

  • I still say Snyder gets til 09 to "fix" our problems.  Unless we completely fall apart and end up 0-12 or 2-10 at best.  I dont think 0-12 will happen, but I wouldnt bet on being much better than 2 or 3 wins.  And honestly I cant see any for sure wins on the schedule with the way this team has killed itself week end and week out.  2 or 3 wins may be a stretch.

  • I agree. Snyder will get to at least 09. I would be interested to see what we could be like if we were not hurt.

  • There is really no point in talking about making a move on Snyder if Kayo remains the AD. All that would guarantee is that we will not get the best possible candidate for the position. Kayo's track record speaks for itself.

We need an innovative AD with vision and a belief in Marshall and her upward trajectory. That's the first step to correcting this mess.

I agree with this statement.  Kopp is deliberative in his actions. I believe that Kopp recognizes that successful athletics helps to bring about a collegiate atmosphere that will make students want to stay on campus.  Marshall is about recruiting more out of state students and providing better facilities to keep students on campus.

Ultimately, Kopp is the decision maker and not Marcum.
