  • A question came up on HerdNation asking why "the guy that retired 10 years early to follow the Herd" doesen't post on HerdNation any more.

Well, Daherdboy doesn't post there any more due to the fact that deleting one's posts questioning Herd Athletic situations without using names or making criticisms seem to happen without any reasoning on HerdNation leads one to believe that the Athletic Department has major influence there.

Retired 10 years early to follow Herd sports.
Those 10 years have been marvelous.

  • I believe the only influence the athletic department has on Herdnation is based on the mods there wanting to be viewed as superfans and people of influence.  Well, that and other self interest of the mods.

How can you have a guy that works for the HD moderating a fan bulletin board?  How can he play both roles?  He needs the Athletic Department to allow full, free (and perhaps preferential) treatment to his employer in order for them to be able to maximize circulation.  I guess one way he could do that is to help keep the fan base in check when they are unhappy.  One way to do that is to control the conversation.

That's why I like this board, everyone seems to understand the university, and the football team, is bigger than any individual (or few people).

  • I'm a mod on Herd Nation, and I've never "silenced" anyone who posts there.  You can rest assured no one is out to silence your voice.  There's no HN conspiracy to protect Mark Snyder.  There's no organized campaign to keep Kayo Marcum as our AD indefinitely.

The only time anyone is moderated on that board is when an individual personally attacks another individual (be they a member of the forum or otherwise), or if he/she is a fan of another school and chooses to flame on the main HN board.

HN and HF are both unique.  I visit this forum often, and enjoy reading the posts here; Wolf has done a great job with the new forum software -- it is vastly superior to Rivals.  I don't, however, understand the incessant need for some of you to come here and badmouth fellow Herd fans.

    Thanks for your time.

    You mean like this post?

A poster [HerdThat] calls another poster a Maroon.

  • It seems you can voice an opinion on this board.
BUT...on the other board, you better be a yes man if you are to exist. Those are the rules there like it or not. That is why this board is so popular, it is like a good friendly conversation with family that does not always "have" to agree. Thanks to Wolf this is "where its at" when it comes to the Herd.

  • There are people on Herd Nation that get away with murder. (Well, not quite murder). One guy not too long ago called some of us rednecks, low class, and that we sucked a certain male anatomy. He was not banned or publicly reprimanded.  And as far as calling someone a Maroon, murox has done it consistently.

I don't think this is very fair at all.

He created the message board LONG before he became an employee of a business in Huntington.  The key here is CREATED.  He's not just a moderator.  I'm sure there was some discussion about this issue prior to employment.  Not that it is any of our business what his business is.

I always thought bankers were more middle of the road and flexible.  I thought they were better able to evaluate without getting personal and knew how to keep some information private.

     ;)

I appreciate this board for many reasons but I don't like personal attacks however shrouded in mystery or righteousness.

I affectionately refer to certain posters as morons on the Pullman Square board, where there is very, very limited moderation, and as far as I know, I'm the only mod that posts there.  It's not like I'm calling people names and censoring those who call me names.  I can take it just as well as I dish it out.

Well I consider Pullman Square as part of Herd Nation. If that's technically incorrect, I stand corrected on that part. The rest of my post stands. Affectionately calling someone a Maroon? Yeah, right.

  • 1.  I found this in a post in another thread.  It's name calling.  Isn't it?

"Be careful sturt, if you move too quickly that bug might just fall right out of your arse. You have to be the most pompous poster on these boards."

I'd rather be called a Maroon in a kidding way than pompous, not kidding.

    2.  Whether you tell someone to do something with your privates or talk about their arse, it's all gross.

"Affectionately calling someone a Maroon? Yeah, right." Yeah, I know it's some of your close friends I'm talking about. Doesn't make it any nicer. If you were a guy, would you like to be called a c----sucker? Is that also talking to someone affectionately?

I think you're a little mixed up again.  Daherdboy has been to my house but no one else in this thread or the people I guess you are referring to.  I see a lot of HerdNation people at home games because our tailgate is on the way to theirs and because they go to a lot of away games.

If someone called you a &^%, shouldn't you tell THEM, not me?

Actually, "Herdnation" is part of the Rivals network, which I don't remember being created by the mods of the "old" Herdnation.  Seems I recall being a member of Rivals before the "old" Herdnation mods became a part of it.  Also, as I recall, I joined Rivals to get away from Herdnation and their moderation policies and in my opinion Rivals sort of sold their soul to the devil in an attempt to increase their subscriptions.  From the looks of the premium board (few posters), that has not worked out too well for them.

Jamie Oakes is worth the price of admission during the heavy recruiting season and is the only reason I will continue to pay for a subscription there.

  • HN merged with rivals last year [unfortunately].  Indy et al.  took over day to day operations under Rivals authority.

They said they were asked, pushed, [my words] by people in the athletic dept. to go to rivals because the rivals site was dead, and all the recruits went there and it looked like we had no fan base.

I think INdy was sick of all the bull crap he had to do to keep things going, this way he would not have to worry about all the crap Wolf has to worry about.
