Even through a one-win season, attendance has not dwindled at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

Marshall has averaged 31,660 fans in its first four home games of the season. Helping that figure, of course, was the sellout crowd of 40,383 that packed the stadium Sept. 8 for West Virginia’s visit.

Season-ticket sales, figured into attendance totals, also reached record levels this season because of the WVU game.

Still, attendance has been solid even as the Thundering Herd struggles through its worst season since 1979.

“Our fans have been great,” third-year coach Mark Snyder said. “We have to keep supporting these kids and our fans keep answering the call. I told our kids to expect (a big turnout) and we need to go perform for them and our kids will respond to the crowd. When you see that stadium come alive and you look at our sideline ... you cannot buy that with gold.”
