The road to the Henderson Center hardwood has been long for Marshall basketball player Adam Williams.

Williams will make his official Thundering Herd debut in the season opening game Nov. 13 versus Pikeville, but the red-shirt sophomore from St. Albans, W.Va, shouldn't be a stranger to fans in the Huntington area.

During his tenure as a St. Albans Red Dragon, Williams' list of accomplishments was rather long. He was named the Gatorade West Virginia High School Player of the Year in 2003-04 and won the Bill Evans Award as the top player in West Virginia by the Associated Press while averaging 22.5 points a game, 11.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game. Williams was also a two-time W. Va. first team All-State selection.

For his efforts, Williams earned a scholarship to national basketball powerhouse Kentucky and the chance to play for a national title winning head coach in Tubby Smith.

Williams delayed his "Big Blue" debut to play a year at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

For Williams, the stay at UK was not a long one. After one season as a Wildcat, Williams decided to return to his home state and transferred to Marshall. Williams' father and current Nitro High School head basketball coach Tex Williams was a standout for the Herd in basketball and baseball earning a spot in the Marshall Hall of Fame.
