HUNTINGTON -- There have been few constants during an uneven Marshall University football season.

After a stagnant opening half to 2007, the pass rush has amped up. The Thundering Herd running game especially has meandered the roller coaster, topping out at 254 yards against Rice while managing just 51 at Miami.

Real progress overall appeared in motion at the season's second half turn, but last week's loss at Central Florida interrupted any momentum.

It could be argued that quarterback Bernard Morris has been the lone consistent.

Off the field, there's no question -- Thundering Herd fans have delivered in strong numbers, regardless of record or opponent.

At 1-8, Marshall's average attendance totals 31,660 through four home games, fourth best in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd (1-8, 1-4 Conference USA) returns home today, hosting East Carolina (6-4, 5-1). Kickoff at Joan C. Edwards Stadium is 4:30 p.m.

Mark Snyder has been just as consistent in his praise of fan support. Marshall's third-year coach was asked to deliver a message to fans -- from the Tri-State and beyond -- earlier this week.
