Former West Virginia offensive coordinator Calvin Magee has launched another salvo in the controversy that has followed coach Rich Rodriguez's departure to Michigan.

According to Mike Brown, Magee's agent, in a story published Sunday in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a WVU administrator told Magee that he would not be a candidate to replace Rodriguez and pointed to Magee's black skin as explanation.

Brown -- who is also Rodriguez's agent -- told ESPN.com that the administrator "is in a position to know it's true."

  • I don't believe that for a minute.

I don't discount the possibility that McGee was discounted because he is black, but there is no way that any college administrator would tell a potential candidate that he wouldn't be considered because of the color of his skin.

Wow, I'm with you....possible, but that would just NEVER be said.  He may never be considered as he never called plays, under RRod so he's more like a junior coordinator.  But this lawyer was tried  and succeeded in getting headlines.

  • regardless the Black College Coaches Association should and will go up there and want to see records. I do not believe they even had intentions of interviewing a black coach.

  • I can only think of one Black head coach at MU, Dwight Freeman. Have there been other Black head coaches at MU?

The current men's soccer coach at WVU is the school's first ever black head coach.  His name is Marlon LeBlanc.

  • Even if they had considered Magee, can you imagine the backlash from the hilljacks racist fans in WV? Especially if he started losing. I think it was wrong to not consider him, especially after the game he called in the bowl but maybe they were scared to have him as head coach considering how harsh their fans are. Man, that whole thing is a mess up there. Everyone is pointing fingers and like the guy said, the best thing to do is settle and move on because WVU is being made it look like complete (@/:; right now to the nation and people already had a bitter way of looking at WV anyway.  I can't say I am disappointed in all the bad press they are getting though. haha  The bowl win is nothing more than an afterthought to the nation now.

  • they hired a guy who got fired for using the N word............no one else in the country would have hired him as head coach.

not surprising at all to me.

this is the place where one of Nehlen's african american asst. coaches had problems due to his race

That makes these claims a little more eyepopping.
