We've already overdosed on a certain Wild West reference to Doc Holliday.

How many times have we heard, "There's a new sheriff in town," when Marshall's new aptly-named head football coach is mentioned?

The count stands at roughly a bajillion.

Well, make it a bajillion and one.

That's because as hackneyed and as much of a cliché as it has become, there still remains a good reason to repeat it.

    It's the truth.

There really is a new sheriff in town.

And Holliday proved it during his very first practice as Marshall's head football coach Wednesday as spring drills began at Edwards Stadium.

Just ask the Herd's first-team offense.

"I didn't think I'd have to tell them how to run onto the field," said Holliday with a grin. What Doc learned Wednesday was not to take anything for granted with the football program he inherited. He won't make that mistake again.

Sounds like the fellas are going to be in for a rude awakening. After learning of the lack if discipline and conditioning under the former staff, I am more and more pleased we have a guy like Coach Holliday running the show now.

Exactly.  Snyder did not have the word "discipline" in his vocabulary.

  • I love it.  When I see a player running the stairs as a punishment, that will signal that a real football coach is back in town.  (saw Jonathan Goddard running the steps MANY times)

Although, the endzone to endzone and back Army crawls that Donnan used to use were pretty good too.  On the old skool astroturf, the guys would leave a blood trail about the last 60 yards.

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

the practices I saw under BP had few little if any discipline to them.  I saw kids miss passes, and kick the ball out of the stadium in frustration, that if it happened in a game would have drawn at least 15 and maybe an ejection, and not 1 coach said a word to the player  ( I also saw the same player drop a few td's that were right in his hands that cost us some games).  I would see defensive players loafing to the ball ,if they even went to the ball, so things weren't all that Rosy in that time period.
