  • Has Hamrick said anything yet ? When exactly is the recruiting period and signing days ? I hope we have a coach by next Monday , I think the faster the better , as long as it's not rushed .

Fox Sports-Talk 1230 locally is saying Buzz Peterson (Appy) and Larry Harrison (wvu assistant) are the lead dogs.  I hope whatever is going to happen, happens soon.  This is prime recruiting season.

  • Larry Harrison's records at Hartford sucked. I'll be extremely dissappointed if he is hired.

My two favorites are Mark Gottfried or Bobby Lutz.

I would be happy with Buzz. Heck either one would do it for me. They are both better than the guy that just left.

Buzz Peterson has been to 1 NCAA tournament in 13 years as a head coach. If we are gonna hire a retread let's at least hire one that has been very good at some point in his career (e.g., Gillen, Lutz)................

  • Hamrick said on Hoppy's show today (I am told, I didn't hear it) that he was going to interview quite a few in Indy this weekend. He would narrow the list to 3 and have a coach by the end of next week.

  • I've heard that a lot of notable current & former head coaches are interested in the job (I'm not sure of the definition of "notable").

I heard that a current WVU assistant REALLY wants the job (didn't hear the name, only the REAL strong interest).  I heard that Finney was to have an interview today about the job.  I heard that a Huntington businessman is pushing for a candidate.

I say all this for to say only this.  There is STRONG interest in this job.  The Marshall job is seen by coaches as a good position to have.  Yeah, they may see it as a stepping stone, but I don't think it's seen as a 3 year stepping stone.

DJ took the first offer he received & left.  Like or not, it happened.  There was a disconnect between him & Hamrick, but it wasn't anything that wasn't solveable from either party (if both parties were willing to).  It happened & it's over, so lets move on & get the next guy.

  • Three things that I do NOT WANT in our next coach:
    1. A WVU asst.
    2. A UNLV asst.
    3. A Herd asst.

And, as said above and before (contrary to Marcums thoughts), this is a VERY GOOD JOB. Lots of coaches want it. Let's pick a great one out of the bunch.

No WVU coaches and the Huntington businessman needs to keep his nose out of it, geez. The dude must be a total not so smart.

I highly recommend listening to Hoppy's interview with Hamrick....Hamrick is very impressive as usual, I keep getting reminded that he is such a breath of fresh air compared to AARP's Problem Now.

    Highlights
1.Marshall is a better job than UCF (AARP would have never said that)
2.Plans to interview 7 - 10 coaches in Indianapolis, then narrow it down to 2 or 3, and interview them either on campus or at another location
    3. He talked to Lon Kruger and Bob Huggins for advice
    4. He hasn't talked to Whiteside yet
    5. Wants to hire a coach in about a week, to get on the recruiting trail the week of April 12.

Direct link to the actual interview is here:

  • Hamrick does well, doesn't he?  Glad he chose to come back; think he is making a difference in public opinion of our professionalism and approach to modern day athletic administration.

Wolf, I went to look up Ford's bio and I noticed in high school, playing in Ohio, Ford scored more career points than Lebron James.  In addition, Ford holds the Ohio high school record for most free throws made in a season and in a career.  Couldn't hurt having Ford teaching the players how to shoot free throws!
