  • ""Our main focus was establishing good work habits," Piraino said. "We wanted to build strength and condition, but that was secondary. We focused on changing the culture.

"The offensive line came in with some average work habits at best. When all was said and done they were probably our hardest working group."

    Interesting.....

  • Culture change has been a popular term lately.  I've mentioned that our fans need a culture change on this forum, especially diehard fans like GB60.

  • I think that a lot of the change that is happening in football and will have to happen in basketball should not be necessary.  Generationally things hit a road block.  Coaches used to rule with an iron-fist and discipline came naturally...now the term "player's coach" is thrown around.  It may work in pro sports and at the uber-high-profiled colleges...but if you don't have superior talent, you have to have a coach that is in total control.

  • Athletes crave leadership and discipline.  With discipline they are focused and, more often than not, play to a level above their abilities.

We haven't had discipline in a long time and it has shown in the product.  We have had a coach who wanted to be a "Player's Coach"...Who had a nickname for every player.  Never knew Pruett or Donnan to have a nickname for anyone.  I remember after one, of many, rough patches, Snyder claims to have gotten a supportive call from Leftwich...I say claims because they had no history.  Snyder was quoted as saying he told Leftwich "Yo B, I'm hurting."  I threw up a little in my mouth.  What leader says "Yo B"?

Pruett didn't know a lot of player's names, Snyder was the exact opposite....TOO familiar.  You can get away with some of that as a position coach because you have the most contact with the player.  But a head coach has to be a bit detached.  You should know their names & something about them (even the walk-ons), but treating them like a "buddy" is clearly wrong.

  • I always pictured Snyder as going into the weight room with baggy shorts and his cap on sideways bobbing to the beat of the rap on the stereo keepin' it real in the 304.

    That's not too far off.
