Cutting through the confusion of a marathon seventh inning Friday night was James Lavinskas, the reserve who stroked a two-run single that gave Marshall the lead for good in a 7-4 victory over Memphis at Appalachian Power Park.

In a frame that featured five attempted pitching changes between the teams, the Thundering Herd surrendered a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh and then retook it in the bottom. From there, the Marshall bullpen stranded three Tigers in the final two innings to seal the victory.

Both teams are 2-2 in Conference USA play, with Marshall 11-13 overall and Memphis 11-15. With Easter coming this weekend, the teams will play a doubleheader - and yes, both games will be nine innings - starting at 11:35 a.m. today.

Ian Kadish turned in another strong start for the Herd, giving up just three hits and two runs and striking out six in six innings. But as happened a week ago at Tulane, he was stuck with a no-decision.

Marshall took its 3-2 lead on unearned runs in the first and second and a Justin Maynard double in the fourth. But the bullpen had its troubles in the seventh.
