  • Friday was the first day of the Region I Soccer Tournament hosted by our state of West Virginia and around
17,000 people are in town for at least the next couple days.

People are everywhere in Huntington and Barboursville.....and they are spending MONEY.
Pullman Square was packed on Thursday along with The Joan for the opening ceremonies.  Hotel rooms from Charleston
to Ashland are full-up.  Restaurants are busting at the seams feeding the masses....and can those kids EAT.

And it looks great for our area.  The H-D said that the tournament will bring $12 MILLION to
    the Huntington-Charleston-Ashland area.

Does one good seeing the smiles on the shopkeepers faces with the money flowing.

Wish we could have a national tournament in Huntington every weekend.

Retired 10 years early to follow Herd sports.
Those 10 years have been marvelous.

  • Beckley comes the closest. During the year they have AAu basketball and baseball tournaments too. There is a place north of Pidgeon Forge that runs baseball tournaments every week during the summer. It's a cash cow. We need to do more than soccer and wrestling....big bucks.
"I have heard people talk about the healing process - that sounds good - or closure," Dawson told the Los Angeles Times. "I don't know what closure is, but that area of my life will never be closed. But I feel alive again. I feel I can smile again."

  • Wow...I guess people are startin' to realize a sport of any kind, if it be soccer, can generate money. Must be popular.

In other soccer news, Netherlands upset Brazil 2-1 to advance to the Semi-Finals of the World Cup.

If we only had a baseball park.

  • Wow guess that 3rd hotel in Huntington would not have any customers this weekend. (sarcasm)
