Get-together for Herd baseball team set for Monday at Brier PatchBy Gary FauberAssistant Sports EditorMarshall baseball coach Jeff Waggoner has chosen Beckley as one of his team’s unofficial homes.People from the community want Waggoner to know that Beckley has, in turn, chosen the Thundering Herd.Marshall alumni from the area will host a get-together for Waggoner at 7 p.m. Monday at Brier Patch Golf Links in Beckley. The event will be held in advance of the Herd’s three-game series against Georgia Southern that begins Friday, April 8, at Linda K. Epling Stadium.Tim Epling, manager of the West Virginia Miners, wants area baseball fans to show their support for the Herd. By the time the season is over, Marshall will have played nine games in Beckley.“Our goal is to bring in 1,000, 1,500 fans per game and really back these guys,” Epling said. “It gives the fanbase a chance to watch some West Virginia Miners players (past and present). Coach Waggoner has been instrumental in getting some players in here, and he is a big supporter of us.”
