EDITOR'S NOTE: This the third of a 12-part series previewing Marshall's opponents for the upcoming football season.

HUNTINGTON -- Oh, the not-so-subtle differences between Lincoln, Neb., and Athens, Ohio.

Frank Solich's final two seasons as the head football coach at the University of Nebraska went 7-7 and 9-3. His reward was a 2003 firing.

Solich's first three seasons as the head coach at Ohio University went 4-7, 9-5 and 6-6. His reward was a contract extension.

These are the days for 66-year-old Cleveland, Ohio, native. In the eyes of many people, the one-time "disappointment" as legendary Tom Osborne's replacement at NU has turned into a savior at OU.

Pre-Solich, the Bobcats didn't make a bowl game in close to 40 years. Since he took over in 2005, they've gone to three, including a loss to Marshall in the 2009 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
