Doubt it was really a "slip"...what kid in his right mind that has offers from real schools would want to play in the Big Slow 10 or Big LEast?  You know the cash is flowing in those conferences --- and Phil Knight has raised the bar in the PAC 1-9 --- before, USC was the only school worth attending for football...now whOregon pays too much to pass up.  I'd bet about anything that undrafted free agents from whOregon take a pay cut to make an NFL roster!

  • I'd love to know what the payroll is for the SEC .

I'm sure it's substantial but nowhere near what it is in other conferences.  The SEC has teamed with ESPN to make themselves the "place to be"...I'm sure there are many playing in the SEC for a lot less than they could make in the toilet conferences like the Big LEast, Big Slow 10 and the ACC.  They've done a great job of making themselves so desirable that they don't have to pay.  I mean, the SEC had more players drafted this year than CUSA has had drafted since we've been in the league combined...the SEC is a meal ticket...if a kid is going to go to one of those other 3, he has to make his money NOW.

I mean think about it.  If your kid was a 5* recruit and Nick Saban is sitting in your living room saying he has a great chance to start but we do nothing more than getting him a car to drive from a local dealership --- and the Mullet is sitting in another chair GUARANTEEING a starting spot along with $40,000 cash now, a car and a weekly "allowance" of $1000 a week during football season, where are you and 99% of American parents going to send your kid?  The SEC only has to pay players to keep them from OTHER SEC SCHOOLS, because the other conferences aren't really in the competition.

I would guess the BsCS order from highest payroll to lowest goes something like this:

    1.  Big Slow 10
    2.  PAC 1+9 (on the rise thanks to Phil)
    3.  Big we can't count but we have Texas (another up and comer thanks to T. Boone Pickens)
    4.  Big LEast (even their boosters can't justify wasting money on them)
    5.  SEC
    6.  ACC (just because there is no money left over for football payrolls after the basketball programs are done paying)

  • Oh I say without a doubt the SEC hands out more stuffed envelopes , per player , the any other conference out there . LSU , Auburn , Tenn all have been caught in just the last couple of seasons . There's a reason why the SEC is good .

  • The NCAA is afraid that they will lose their jobs so the only punishment being handed down anymore is probation.  USC will be the last big school to get hit with any sanctions that have meaning.  On the other hand...watch out any non AQ school because the NCAA is going to show they have teeth.  Look what they did to Boise St over a tennis program.  Boise got labeled with the lack of institutional control over tennis and some very minor football violations.

  • Is there a site that keeps a running list of college programs that have been caught handing out large sums of cash or weekly cash stipends?
