  • Extragreen I think you are full on right about coaching in one of your posts. If we run safety out of the box they showed all year and in spring, against OU we are looking at a long night. Rippon finally has speed to run his D. In the spring game the run draws worked better and Cato looked better running, but we do need better "flow" in the game.

Look I understand you are in the minority, You've been jilted year after year. I wouldn't even call you negative, but waiting for what you've came to expect. Now we might not agree on the progression it took to this point I.e. recruits and philosophy, but that doesn't make you any
less knowledgable. Just hope by the end of the year it's you telling me you were wrong and not me making a thread apologizing :)

After 7 years of watching this underachieving and mostly disappointing football program, I would just love to come back on here sometime in the season, especially early season, and admit that I was so wrong about this year that my grandkids are dogging me about it. lol

  • I would bet that UTEP, Memphis, Tulane, UAB and about 40 others would like to have underachieved their way to two Bowl wins since 2009. All of us would like to get back on top but whining aint gonna do it. And prob about 35 of that 45 are better funded than we are.

  • As I've admitted before, I'm not a guy that knows alot about schemes when it comes to football, but I've had two interesting conversation recently that leaves me believing that the scheme that we see on the field this season, on both sides of the ball, will be totally different looking than it has the last two years.  The safety in the box on defense seems to be a thing of the past and I was told that the hurry up will be much like the teams that run the more traditional "spread" offenses.  Apparently, we'll huddle very few times on offense this year at all.

Mafia Id say I am a bit of a scheme/technique nut. On that note Im not so much worried about the safety in the box, but the safety running out. It's also not fully that, but the fact that it became obvious what our D was going to do. We didn't disguise coverage well last year. Probabaly due to lack of speed at CB, but even an average QB should have been able to watch film and check to a play when they saw what we came with. just make a better effort to disguise what we are doing in the secondary and running that safety out should be ok. Play cover 3, but disguise man. Show a press and turn it into cover 2 press. It will be key to show different looks.

I feel like this staffs idea from the beginning is... This is what we are, whether you fit or not this is how we do it. It goes back to square pegs in the round hole, but everyone knows the program by now and hopefully it seems we have 11 circles on each side ready to click.
