  • NHR, but I know we have a lot of Vinson alum on the board that would like to read this one.

    It happens much too often.

An iconic athletic figure dies and devoted followers decide to remember the revered individual by naming a sports venue after him.

And, yes, that is indeed an honor.

    But it is still posthumous.

That's the beauty of what former Vinson High School athletes and fans are doing for Donnie Smith and Gary Norris. They are renaming the gym and basketball court after those two beloved coaches while they're still with us.

A banquet at Vinson on Aug. 25 will commemorate the Don R. Smith Gymatorium and the Gary Norris Court.

  • I played for both of them, and only one deserves to have his name on anything.

  • I played for both as well. One used to put lotion on his legs and the other went pretty far to cover up possible affairs with some of the female students. Im kind of with Thundering In MD. Of the 2, I suppose the one with the lotion on his legs is the only one who should get anything named after him  ;D

And to be honest with you, the more I read that article, the more uneasy I get. I dont see a coach Griffin field or a Paul Martin Library. Those are the kind of people that moved me to succeed. But I suppose I really dont care any how.

  • WOW: Korun and I agree on something.  The Paul Martin Library would be an excellent addition.

  • Quite a few good instructors at Vinson. Jim Case, Richard Hodge, Ardoth Rutherford, Phil Lucas, etc. Does anyone remember the Tom Patrick power layup? :o
