  • Hello Herd:

Longtime admirer of MU - I am married to 1 of your alumni finest. A long time ago my wife was going to toss away a old sweatshirt and some tickets she had from when she went to school in the early 90's. I have a Marshall  1 - AA National Championship sweatshirt that is in perfect shape and 2 tickets from the 1993 1-AA Championship game, as well as another ticket from 1991 1-AA game against New Hampshire (not sure if this was Championship game or a playoff game) and an old photo of a Herd player from around the same time frame.

I kept this stuff for many years since I knew someone from the Herd's fanbase should have these items instead of just throwing them out. I am finally getting around to doing something with these items -- I would like to send it to either a moderator, Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe or whatever you suggest??  My wife is from just outside the Huntington area and we make it up almost every year for the Holidays but we have never had the time to take a football game in although I have been around the campus and driven around the stadium numerous times.

I have met many good people from the Tri-State area and wish you nothing but the best for the future, just wish we could have made it up for a football game or hoops game.

I also would like to state that the 1 single time we did make it up for Thanksgiving or maybe a few days before was when We are Marshall first came out. I saw the movie with my wife and some of her relatives in a small theatre near JC Pennys in Kentucky close to Ironton. I consider that 1 of the more special moments of my life and I was honored to watch that with some of your fans and undoubtedly some relatives of some of the crash victims. Your fanbase is super special and you have an admirer here. I come from a small town and I know the difference and could feel the sadness one minute and the pride and joy the next.

I've rooted for Marshall in the MAC Championship game against Western Michigan when my wife wanted to turn the tv off and I would not let her and lo and behold, the Herd came back. I've stopped her again from turning the tv off and watched another epic win and comeback against ECU many years ago and even sweated to death in Gainseville to watch the Herd play UF.

    All the Best,

    Blitzenknight

  • The New Hampshire ticket is from the first game in the new stadium. Thunders beat me to it, but I'd love to have one to go with my photo of the stadium from the inaugural game.

  • Excellent first post and dont make it your last.

The ECU game you refered to was a GMAC Bowl win that was indeed epic.

  • i don't know if you knew Sam Stanley, but i would run an auction with your stuff and some of my own with all proceeds going to his scholarship fund.LMK if any interest.

The New Hamshire ticket is probably from the first game at the new stadium.

  • Mobile, ALA  -- I distinctly recall telling my wife that they can come back just like they did before against W.Mich even though WM was with Pennington at the helm nd I remember him saying the season is for nothing if they lose that game. I think that was 99 when you were being ranked too right? I am going off the top of my head here so bear with me.
I remember Leftwich being carried about the field and his lineman hustling to get him up and down the field as he kept shredding ECU's defense. Very impressive win and even better comeback. One for alltime.

I have not checked out any Herd boards in 3-4 years, much less UCF boards as I used to have free time to do so but I do not anymore so I am not familiar with Sam Stanley. Can you tell me more about him and his scholarship?
The photo I have is of a guy wearing #55 but no name given and no idea of the year except it has to be 1992 or before.
What is the timeframe for an auction?

Sidenote: wife's family just had a family reunion and on her side of the family there is a family of docs who run their own practices in several poor counties where coal is and they all state the impact is tremendous in regards to coal mining locations shutting down. Hopefully things can turn around somehow someway.

  • Blitz,,,,I think you may be recalling the Akron game when he was being carries down the field by his Olineman. The look on the ECU coach Logan was classic.

I was at this game. Made me nauseous when he went down but I teared up when he almost brought us back and they were carrying him down the field.

  • My wife did indeed go to the 1st game at Joan Edwards Stadium - it did not register until 1 of your posters said this ticket Herd vs New Hampshire is from the 1st game there and I had completely forgotten that she told me that long ago.

Woody,  the best thing is for the most Herd fans to see this stuff which would best be accomplished by the Marshall HOF Cafe.  Funny, I have even eaten there maybe 5-6 years ago and walked around and I was amazed at all of the nice sports memorabilia - jealous at the same time since the HERD has heritage that you cannot buy. Now, I have the opportunity  to contribute and that would be the best option.

What is your affiliation with the M HOF Cafe?  Is that the best address to use? How is Pullman Square doing? Hope the power outages are not adversely affecting your fans too much and if the power is down it will come back quick.

Recently, I drove my FIL's truck with KY plates on it and NRA stickers all over it. My wife asked if I was sure I wanted to be seen in it, she thought I would be embarrassed - FIL is lucky he got it back.

Mods: Can I send this in to Binder and be all right? I just want to ensure it gets to the right person. Thanks!
