Tom Herrion really wanted this game.

I mean, really, really wanted it.

Think Marshall's proud head basketball coach had forgotten the indignity of Southern Miss coach Donnie Tyndall running up the score and beating Herrion by 56 points in the most lopsided game in Conference USA history?

Not a chance.

"I remember," said Herrion curtly with a tight-lipped smile. "I remember."

Any coach worth his competitive salt would.

Still have up 84 points mainly because of great outside shooting.  We won the game, but it was because we played well offensively, not because of the zone.  Not even close.  Not criticizing Herrion for trying something new, at all.

So why the hell would we not play more zone during the entire season.

If it worked somewhat vs southern miss why would you just start using it now.

That was the exact thing I thought.  Isn't the name of the game, winning?  The great coaches adapt their style to the players strength's.  Ultimately it is Herrion's fault for not recruiting the right players to fit the system he wants to play.

My thoughts as well. He says he is still aman guy and acts like we shouldn't expect to see much of it. But he plays zone because he wanted to win so bad? I'm still scratching my head!!!!

With the size we had we should have played more zone.  Should have trapped the corners when we were running the 1-3-1 but a W is a W.

Exactly right you see it with all the successful teams like the Redskins did with RG3 Shanahan had to switch the offense to fit his strengths.

That's the only way to be a successful coach if you don't have the best players in the game, your not going to get anywhere being stingy and only playing the defense you like to play.

After reading this article, one quote stood out to me, and I think this sums it all up about Herrion,
