  • Saturday afternoon on the local (Columbus) PBS channel they ran a show on the Waterloo Wonders (in what would now be the Symmes Valley School District), the school whose five players defeated a  number of biggers schools on their way to the 1934/1935 Ohio Class B championships...I vaguely knew of the story, but the program went into greater depth and even went on to point out how they eventually beat the New York Celtics of early professional basketball...good stuff...then I went back and rewatched the ESPN SPORTS CENTURY biography on Bevo Francis of Rio Grande, which is most assuredly the greatest story never told along the same vein...anyhow, check them out if you ever have the opportunity...there is also a great book on Bevo called SHOOTING STAR that is compelling...

  • I read a book called the "Waterloo Wonders" when I was in school. Did the PBS program talk about some of the Wonders going up in the stands and eating popcorn during the games and the guys shooting the ball through the rafters?

  • Yes...and they'd play three-on-five when players needed rest...
