  • So the former C-USA teams are going to get their share of the $100 million.  If I counted the remaining FB members correctly, that is $13.75 million.  Wish we could have cashed in on that.

That money will not be split evenly. UCONN, UCINN, and USF get a much bigger portion. I've heard that those three will get 75% and the noobs will split 25% but the percentages aren't set in stone.

Last I heard, Cincy Uconn and USF are slated to get $75 million.....$10 million to the new 8 members (a little under $1.2 Million per school and the rest is supposed to go to lawyers fees. Here is an interesting quote that I seen posted on another site:

    http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=5580

The new schools, headed by Memphis, SMU and Central Florida, objected to a distribution plan which would have given the old schools as much as 90 percent of that total. The new schools wanted a much more even distribution, arguing that the Big East conference which existed when they made the decision to join had change dramatically in the past several months. So much in fact, that they should be compensated on a more equitable basis.

The old schools said that that none of the schools–with the exception of Temple which joined as a member in football last July–had done anything to contribute to the money that was in the fund and did not deserve a greater  share than the $10 to 15 million which had been originally proposed.

  • Wow, all these schools were so eager to leave C-USA behind, and before they even take the field for the first time as a member of there new, to be named later, conference, they are already going to have lawsuits amongst themselves!!! Can anyone say Karma??

  • This Cincinnati writer is not at all happy with the new America 12 conference:

    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20130308/COL03/303080075/Doc-UC-needs-get-out-America-12:

The new Big East will play its conference tournament at Madison Square Garden. The America 12 will play its conference tournament in a rodeo hall in Wichita Falls, TX, but only if the Monster Trucks aren’t in town.

I can’t tell you how exciting this is for me, and I’m sure for you as well. Nothing says big-time college basketball like Central Florida at Fifth Third Arena on a Tuesday. What’s the pitch to a stud recruit now? “You come here and you’ll be playing Tulane and Houston every year!”

Daugherty's like the runt who doesnt get picked choosing up teams. Whine, whine, whine. He should get a grip and grow a set...you know, have some pride for Gawds sake. Like I've pointed out repeatedly, the ACC simply doesn't want them at this point, and maybe not ever. Daugherty should be ashamed of himself, begging as he does.

He should refuse to sound like the jilted ex-boyfriend.  Cincinnati needs to do what they can do with what they can control.  Everything else will turn out just fine.

But seriously... it's nice to hear someone having pride about his hometown's namesake school... nice to hear some indignance. I just wish it were more of us, not someone from another school that happens to be in a similar position.

  • The question isn't whether or not they can leave...it's "where can we go to improve our football status???"...and no amount of righteous indignation will make any difference...sound familiar???...

The first question isn't where we can go... the question is whether we want to... and there's a wholelotta fans on this board who have outright stated that they prefer the inferior conference that CUSA has evolved to be over the last 12 months.

Just what have we... or at least, too many of us... become? A shadow of our former obnoxious Herd fan selves. Sheesh.

If one can't be indignant, then his expectations have shrunk, and he's given license to the administration to shrink theirs as well... though, maybe someway somehow Kopp has too much integrity to take advantage of that license... maybe someway somehow, he's beating bushes, working the phone, chatting up his peers, and coalescing a group of schools that will force MWC and Am-12 to recognize the value of having 32 schools between them.

  • The Cincy writer feels just like the 7 that left. I dont blame him..Big diff between UC and MU right now. Enrollment, dollars, BB tradition not to mention they have been at the top of their league and the top 25 recently. The CUSA schools not so much. Us either. But spin it any way you want.

  • I have some empathy for UC. They are in the same position as The Herd in that a "better" conference is not interested in making them a member.    :'(

Maybe UC and MU should follow the leader and throw some money around until it sticks like the Mighty Mountaineers have done!

  • Still the utter anguish for UC fans who now must watch cross-town rival Xavier proudly pimp around with the Big East brand while they languish is some obscure abomination of a football conference.

I'm not sure they have anywhere to go.  They were lucky to have been one of only five schools (UC, USF, UConn, TCU, Utah) who have made the jump from mid-major to a BCS league since the formation of the BCS in 1998.  As you know, it is tough to join a league with the so-called big boys of college football.

They had a taste of it and made it to the Orange Bowl but their future is murky at best.

  • There will be a major split of the BCS schools and the rest. There will be 64 or so teams that form a new division and then there will be the rest of us.

  • right and Cincinatti wont be with "the rest of us"...their future a lot less murkier than Marshall. They have NFL and MLB and their second team will beat Tulane in either sport. Dont kid yourself.
